ADHD.

He was diagnosed at a very tender age. At the present time he's on meds to help him contentrate.

No one knows how difficult it is for the child or care givers, unless they are dealing with it or have dealt with it in the past.

Each child is unique. As they grow, they change.

Brian was doing terrible last year, but with the change in meds, he's now living up to his full potential.

I've heard of it.

Brian is on Concerta.

Believe me, i didn't want to go this route, but after trying to work with a social worker for 6 months after he was diagnosed, i felt like i had to protect him. He was a danger to himself. Very impulsive!

Based on my experience, I found that Adderral tends to make some kids more aggressive. A lot of psychiatrists are avoiding that medication for younger children.

It is a very difficult decision for parents when they are faced with the medication issue. The greatest frustration is trying to find a medication that works. Currently, parents have no other choice but to live through the "trial and error" hell. In the end, it is usually worth it. It sounds like Brian is doing great on Concerta! I hope you weren't faced with the trial and error experience for too long.

It is extremely hard to parent children who suffer from ADHD and difficult for the children who are going through it. Unless you have it yourself or parent someone who does, it's so hard to understand what a day to day struggle it truly is. Everyone has attention difficulties now and then but this is just so much more than that.

Michelle, you will most likely become an "expert" on parenting ADHD children and will most likely help other parents. Most parents I work with who parent children with ADHD are extremely resourceful and come up with such creative ideas to help their children succeed at school. How is he doing at school??

Suzy, your brothers experience was the extreme. Did the psychiatrist keep increasing his meds?? I would really question that doctor. When stimulant meds make an individual tired, then he was over medicated. I can completely understand why you feel the way you do and why your brother is angry.

This year, AMAZING! Last year he was acting in a very dangerous manner. With the added meds to help him control his anger, he's doing a complete turn around.

Brian is the class president, on the chess team and in the choir. We signed him up for an after school program "black culture" at his request. I say, keep them busy =)

Adderall
Two of my boys have been on Adderall. They did not do well on this med. Both became very agitated on it. I took them off of it. One of my boys became violent on this med. but there are other issue with him.

Did the ER put your son on an ekg monitor to check his heart rhythm? All you mentioned was that they listened to heart with the stethoscope. I am an RN and I think this warrants a bit more investigation. Is your son's doctor aware of the chest pain? Adderall is a stimulant. Cardiac problems can occur with any stimulant medication. Tell your son's doctor about this. It may be causing him some anxiety as well. I hope all is okay with your son.
