16 Week Pregnancy Appointment - Gave me the Glucose Drink
Posted: 10-25-07 12:57pm

what an annoying appointment.

first, i was in there for a good 40 minutes and my actual appointment lasted about 5 minutes.

second, i saw the midwife, who i do not care for (ever since she ripped the speculum out during my exam awhile back).

overall it was just another appointment, the heartbeat was strong and i'm measuring perfectly. there were two things that bugged me though, they gave me the glucose drink and i have to go back next week for the bloodwork (then i'll get to do it again at 28 weeks) and she made me feel bad about my weight gain. considering that i gained 70 pounds with finn, i was thinking a 5 pound gain at almost 17 weeks is GREAT.

whatever.

my next appointment is for my big ultrasound!

Don't listen to her!! 5 pounds at 17 weeks is great! I think that's about what I had gained at that point. I gained almost 40 pounds by the end; I'm still packing 10 of it.

Why did they make you do the glucose test this early? I thought they only did at the 28 week mark?

Glad to hear that there's a strong heartbeat. That's always a stress reliever!

hearing the heartbeat for me is a huge relief! i've been much better this time around but i still worry. i haven't felt any movement for a couple days so i started thinking maybe i never had and it was all in my head, then i start to think the worst... but nope, everything is great!

i have to do the glucose test twice because i'm overweight. i guess that means i'm more at risk? i had to do it twice with finn too. i don't mind the drink or the bloodwork, i just don't want to drive the half hour to the lab!

They gave you a hard time about 5 pounds? I can gain 5 pounds without blinking. Confused

Does she think that you shouldn't have gained anything? Because that seems a little rediculous to me.

But, I'm glad that all else was well!

5 pounds at 16 weeks is GREAT! Don't let anyone make you feel bad about what you weigh - especially since you know you are doing great.

I'm glad you got to hear that little heartbeat. It is always so amazing to hear! I always cried. Yes. I'm a dork. Smile

Ow about the speculum Shocked I cringed when I read that. I can't believe she's trying to make you feel bad about 5 freaking pounds. I'm sure I gained more than that by 16 weeks.

I'm glad you heard the heartbeat Very
Happy and I can't wait for your next appointment!

thanks girls! i thought 5 pounds was pretty darn good.

i'm not all that concerned with what she said. my actual doctor said to gain what i'm comfortable with, whether it's 10, 20, 50 pounds. i really don't remember but i think at this point with finn i'd probably gained at least 20 pounds.

and yes, she ripped the speculum out! aren't they supposed to lube those things up?

my ultrasound is 4 weeks from today!!! i'm thinking it's going to be here in no time.

Ah, 5 lbs is nothing!! You're doing an excellent job!! I'd just follow what the doctor says and don't even pay attention to that horrible midwife. Smile

And yay about the ultrasound...it'll be here soon!

Bridget you are far from overweight hun!!!! I can't believe that she gave you a hard time over 5 pounds.........Is she going to be the midwife that you have for the rest of your pregnancy and delivery or do you switch to whoever is available....

Hopefully the baby will cooperate when you go for your ultrasound. I personally think that it is a girl!

I gained 7 lb. in the first trimester, so don't feel bad! Luckily my weight gain did slow down after that (I think maybe because my weight was low-normal, my body had to put on a few pounds immediately to sustain a healthy pregnancy). I'm up 16 or 17 lb. by 33 weeks, so not too awful.

thanks ladies! you're making me feel much better!

shannah (i got it right!), i have to see everyone at the practice on a rotating basis. i'm having a c-section with my doctor (who i *love*), so i won't have to deal with the midwife during labor or anything like that. i'll probably end up seeing her at my appointments a couple more times but there are like 5 or 6 others that i'll see too.

i'm still thinking boy!

So she health forum that you've gained 5lbs in 16 weeks?!?! Is she smoking CRACK!?!

By 20 weeks with Oni, I had gained 20+ pounds.

I think that lady would have a stroke if she knew I had gained 13lbs in 25 weeks!!! What a c*nt!!!

What is she expecting of you!?!
Whatever you do, don't let what she's said affect you or what you're doing! You're doing GREAT!!!!!

I'm thinking girl for youuuu!! LOL!
