Swollen Nodes: Left Armpit And Above Left Clavicle Posted: 10-24-07 12:58pm
I posted this under lymphoma but I think
it is more related to breast cancer? I’m
not sure.
Recently I discovered two enlarged nodes
in my left armpit (or at least what I
think to be nodes. Do lymph nodes feel
like they are attached to ligament type
structures?) They are hard but kind of
rubbery (when I run my fingers over them
they snap very quickly back in place), and
not tender to the touch at all. One is
about two cm and the other one feels like
it is about 1 1/2 cm. They have been there
for about 6 weeks, or at least that is
when I first felt them. About 3 weeks ago,
I came across what feels like an enlarged
node at the bottom of my neck above my
left clavicle. After searching some on
the internet, I read that the left
supraclavicular node is considered a
"signal node" of something serious. I am
not sure if this is a supraclavicular node
though. It is right at the bottom of the
natural slope of my neck located a little
over a cm above my clavicle. Is that
cosidered the supraclavicular region? It
snaps back and feels just like the ones in
my armpits, but is a little more firm
feeling. Can anyone help me with this? I
am worried.
I haven't really had any other symptoms.
My left breast does feel thicker than it
used to but it still feels just like
fibrocystic changes to me...but I also
have VERY fibrocystic breasts that are a
little on the large side (DD) so I would
think that would make it harder to feel
any new lumps? Also, I am only 27, so I
wouldn't think it would be breast cancer,
although I know that is a possibility. I
do have an aunt on my father's side who
was diagnosed with BC at 31. The only
other symptoms that I have had is that I
have had bouts of fatigue from time to
time. I do have a clear discharge that
looks like it is coming out of only one
duct in my left nipple also, but it only
occurs when i have given myself a breast
exam or when I get out of the shower.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

Just because you are only 27 doesn't mean
it's probably not breast cancer.
My cousin was diagnosed at age 24.
My other cousin's wife just passed away at
age 30 from breast cancer.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate
it. I go in for my annual on Nov. 7 so I
am going to tell my doc about all of this
then. I was just going to try to see if I
could get any info before then...to either
ease my mind or just give me some more
information. I appreciate any and all
info. thank you

It is so hard to say over the internet...
Googling symptoms brings up some scary,
scary scenarios. I would never recommend
it! It is best to ask the doctor you trust
and who knows your history.
Good luck!

Have you had a mammogram done? The node
above your clavical sounds like a
supraclavicular node. I see that you are
27 and they usually don't do a mammogram
that early unless they find something
suspicious. If you go to your GYN they do
a breast exam.... stress to them you want
to be referred to a breast specialist. If
you nodes are swolen, you need to see a
breast specialist. Do you give yourself
Breast self exams every month? You need to
about the same time everymonth....
Fibrocystic mastopahy is common but you
still need to exam every month... you will
get ust to the feel of your breast tissue
and will notice a change.
