Sometimes a heating pad or hot water bottle can help. Also there are many meds on the market now like mydol (sp??) that may help, even things like aleve or excedrin.
Some women have endometriosis which can make period cramping horrible and in those cases usually need a drs care to treat. Is this an ongoing thing? Maybe she needs to discuss it with her dr. I hope she starts feeling better soon.

try a back rub on her lower back. Direct pressure on the belly can sometimes hurt me more than help me. Sex is a great way to releive cramps. It works for me. I always feel better after sex.

Warm bath. Helps me. And lots of pain reliever.
