Mesothelioma cancer is a rare type of cancer caused mainly by exposure to asbestos fibers.This cancer of the lungs disease has been known to take lives in its large numbers and several research are been carried out to find a lasting solution to this disease.

There is mesothelin-related protein and its serum levels can be useful in screening asbestos-exposed people for mesothelioma. It was found that the level of soluble mesothelin-related protein is elevated in the serum of about 75% of patients at diagnosis.
Treatment of MM is using conventional therapies like surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy and has not proved successful and patients have a median survival time of 6 - 12 months after presentation.
