Question About Herpes Test Posted: 10-22-07 07:28am
I went to my doctor a while back and got a
blood test for herpes (along with all the
other STDS) and he found NO signs of any
kind of hpv antibodies in my body.
I read on some herpes websites that they
need to take a swab cause some antibodies
can be from cold sores around the mouth.
I have nothing whatsoever in my system,
should i be comforted to know this? when i
went for the test they didn't swab the
area.
And though i have lumps in the area, they
are more like acne than anything.
harmless, not open sores, i've had them
BEFORE i slept with anyone.
I've had thrush as a side effect of
anti-biotics before, and they went away
while i was using the medication for it.
I am really shy about going to see my
doctor about this. I had the test, and was
given the all clear! but now i'm worried
again.
Should i not be?

If he checked your blood, no.
Cold sores are a form of herpes, but a lot
of people get them-even when they aren't
sexually active.
If you don't think the sores are herpes,
don't worry about it. If you are worried,
see your doctor again.
BTW-I'm sure the doctor has seen a lot of
things before, much worse than herpes- so
I wouldn't be shy.

Not all cold sores are herpes. Some people
just get them- it doesn't mean they have
herpes. The blood test is (I think) the
most accurate way to diagnose.

Yes the blood test is the sure way to get
tested. If that came out negative then
you dont have it. The blood test also
tests for oral herpes.
