Well I am not sure if I have a bacterial infection, but I have had some of the symptoms for quite some time now. I just assumed they were normal. What are some problems that can arise from having an untreated bacterial infection? i'm trying to decide how soon to go to the doctor because I have been extremely busy.

What kind of bacterial infection? One in your vagina? If you don't get it treated, it can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease which can be deadly.

Symptoms
What symptoms have you had and have you tried any yeast infection creams or over the counter pills? If you have had any cramps or smell as well as a thick discharge you shouls go asap, if you have different sexual partners it could be something more serious then you think.

Untreated bacterial infections.
Whether acquired via the vagina or mouth can lead to numerous physical problems with throat, pelvic area, muscles and nerves.

Antiobiotics will prevent this. Sometimes, it may take various types of antibiotics as usually infections come with many different types of bacteria multiplying together.

Many health care clinics are giving too short of antibiotic therapy claiming "superbugs". Doctors should stop paying attention to this and at least keep trying a different type of antibiotic if one only minimizes symptoms, but they get worse or return when stopped.

Antibiotics are the life saving cure - regardless of public paranoia about superbugs. This is a common rumor in North America which is creating more disease and sickness leading to unnecessary surgeries etc.,.

Only if lots of antibiotic therapy fails, then surgery should be a last resort.

Also, avoid sharing drinks, food and exchanging bodily fluids with others, this will certainly slow the transmission of all infectious diseases and keep people healthier and stronger. Protect your body - it's only common sense. Don't have sex with multiple partners, that's a sure way to cause early dissipation and death in the human body, especially with the corrosion in today's antibiotic therapy and healthcare. There are lots of pathogens and germs ready and willing to jump from on host to another, remember our bodies on the inside are made up of cells, blood and membranes - a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and viruses. Always, surround yourself with people who are picky about spreading germs and handwashing, especially after coughting, sneezing and using the restroom...And of course, intimacy is your worst enemy out there... Just because they look ok, means nothing..Beware!
