oh, i guess my definition was more along the lines of "medical" virginity. BUT, i guess that wouldn't make sense for the girls who don't have a hymen.

Bingo. That's why the hymen definition of virginity is silly, backwards, inaccurate and actually harmful to the image of women, purity, and virginity.

Virginity is a very loose opinion, is it not? I always thought losing your virginity just had to do with penetration of the vagina by a penis.

But i guess i am proved wrong because not every girl has a hymen!

Indeed!

Virginity can be defined medically or philosophically. You can say it just means when a penis goes in the vaigina, those two people are no longer virgins. But the physical term isn't really important or meaningful- it's never necessary to know medically if a woman is a virgin unless you're testing for std's or pregnancy. The term 'virgin' is only really important psychologically/pilosophically, which means you can decide it means whatever you want it to mean, in which case, most people would say that a raped woman is a virgin because she didn't make the choice not to be.

Why not? Virginity is not just a physical thing, it is also mental. I firmly believe you have to participate in sex in order to lose your virginity. The hypothetical girl was raped. She didn't have sex. There's a difference.

No, it's not "immaculate conception" since clearly a penis and semen was involved. But this is a non-religious definition of virginity, since I am not religious.

No, she didn't have sex, so she is still a virgin. She was raped. Rape does not equal sex.

I am 25 years old, must I go much more? Also, thankyou Eiri.

Different people have different opinions on this, and some say there are different types of virginity. But most people generally agree that if a man has had penetrative sex with a woman then he (or she) is no longer a virgin.

no thats untrue
so if a girl is raped shes not a virgin anymore?

I think that if a girl is raped you are still considered a virgin. You didn't want to be raped and you can't take back time but still, isn't loosing your virginity supposed to be an expected thing?! Well, not quite. But my point is WHO CARES IF YOUR A VIRGIN OR NOT! If you have never had sex.. intentionally YOU ARE A VIRGIN. If you have then pick one. Virgin or non- virgin. I really don't know. I think we should just leave it as a decision now. Shocked
