Miscarriage No Bleeding, No Cramps, No Problems

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and I had my first spotting on 3/29 when I went to the o.B. She told me that she did not hear a heart beat and that she assumed that the baby had died in my 9th week. I was scared and very much confused due to I did not have any problems and my stomach was growing bigger. I had a second opinion. I went to a local hospital I was told to give blood in which that came back very high I was also told that the baby was fine. I had a second u/s done I was again told that the child had died. I'm confused one is telling me that everything is ok then the other is telling me it's not. My doctor wants me to do a d & c and i'm scared especially since this is my first. What should I do if anyone could help.

I am not sure what to say. I hope everything goes ok. I don't think that there is any advice on how to not worry. Everyone worries during their pregnancy, especially their first. I have never heard though of a miscariage without bleeding. I have many friends who have miscarriaged and they said there was alot of bleeding and pain. I know that with my pregnancy they didn't listen to a heartbeat until 4-6 months. Apparently it's hard to hear if you are earlier. So your doctor could've missed it since it is harder to hear that early. What is a d & c? Let me know how everything turns out.

'miscarriage No Bleeding, No Cramps, No Problems
D&c is a procedure which is perform mostly in a hospital where the doctor will scrape your uterius removing the fetus. ..... When your doctor could not hear your baby heartbeat did they suggest that your baby was dead. What was their response to you concerning your child????

The doctor never even listend to the heartbeat into further in my pregnany. If you've been told that your baby had died and then was told that he/she was alive then i'd go to another doctor and make sure. I have heard that when they are that young that there hearbeat is faint and not easy to hear. The only thing that makes me question whether or not the doctor is right is that you were told by another person that he/she was alive. I hope everything turns out ok. Let me know.

I did some research and go to babycenter.Com it tells you week by week development on your baby. Check out week 18 of pregnancy. It states that with the help of a special stethoscope you can hear the heartbeat. If your only 12 weeks and you doctor is saying your baby is dead because their is no hearbeat switch doctors. And do not go throught he d & c procedure. Your baby is most likely alive. It sounds like your doctor is after the money or has clue what he/she is talking about and shouldnt be in the profession. I would also talk to a lawyer and sue this doctor, because every doctor knows that you cant hear a heartbeat at 12 weeks old, it's not possible. Also when a baby dies your body will expel the fetus. I've spoke to many people on this and I have been really worried about you. Let me know what happens.

Actually u CAN hear a heart beat as early as 9 weeks with a device called a fhr doppler that the doctors use in their clinics. What u were reading was at 17-18 weeks u can then hear with a stethecope. But yes you very much can hear at 12 weeks. U shouldnt tell ppl to sue drs when u dont even know what ur talking about

Sorry
Hello well first off all I want to wish you the best. Listen my friend at 11.6 weeks went for her first ultrasound, was told yesterday the same thing you were the doctors could not find a heart beat. They told her the baby was dead. She went to get a second opinion and first they told her that it might me to early to hear the heart beat. Theyn another one came and told her it was the begining of a misscarige. There was no bleeding at all and she was feeling perfectly fine. Today she went to have the baby removed. I regret not telling her to get a 3rd opinion. What if it was to early.. You know just make you you check around. Take care of yourself I wish you the best.

What did happen? I have friends who have "miscarried" and had not blood or pain. But, I don't know if it is technically "miscarrying" or not. The baby died and then they actually had to induce labor and give birth.
I have another friend who miscarried really early on in the pregnancy (she did not even know she was pregnant) and she had severe cramps and lots of blood.
I hope your baby was o.K, but I am assuming that it was not as we have not heard from you. I wish you the best and hope you are o.K. I am very sorry.

until you have been given a scan do not remove your baby until you are absolutely sure in your mind that there is no hope what has happened to you is called a missed miscarriage this is when your body does not expel your baby on its own and you need some help. This happened to me my baby died at 10 weeks 3 days and i had two scans to be absolutely sure there was no hope because if you have any doubts you will spend the rest of your life suffering about this wondering if you did the right thing.I'm so sorry for your loss don't give up hope

responce to nofoolgod
if you had a scan done at 12 weeks that detected no heart beat then im affraid that baby would have passed away, at 12 weeks if there was going to be a heart beat it would be very clear at that stage,,

your blood tests will say everything is fine even though its not blood tests only measure the hormone level

some people miscarry and still get a positive pregnancy test after they have a d&c becuse the hormone level still remains for some time

the scan will be more accurate then blood tests

sorry to hear your news

i also miscarried at 12 weeks had to have d&c

you must have your d&c asap or you will be at a great risk of infection

Exact same thing happened to me. My husband and I were shocked/surprised when we got pregnant. We were beyond excited. He is a solider and we're stationed in Germany. We had to go to a german doctor off post, who's english was kind of crappy. At my first ultrasound he put me at 8 weeks. I was due 3 July 2012. He saw the sack, the baby, everything, but no heartbeat. He said we could check again in a week, but said theres a 90% chance I lost it. I tried to keep myself together til we got to the car. I called my mother in law, who is a nurse and she said the doctor was an idiot and that you can't always see the heartbeat that early. She has 7 kids and she said with some of them they didnt see it til her 12th week. The doctor was wanting to do a D&C and I told him that I wanted to wait til next week, just to double check, because I wanted that baby more than anything. And I guess alot of people are misdiagnosed with miscarriages. The next week we went back and I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself. Everything was significantly smaller than the week before, still no heart beat and still no growth. I was 9 weeks, but my baby had died at 6 weeks 3 days. We were devastated. I want to wait to try again because I can't go through that hurt again, I'm scared to death of having to do that all over again. 28 November 2011 I had a D&C. Its truly mentally scarring losing a baby. I hope everything turned out okay with your baby! and if you need to talk, we can. I'm still trying to cope with losing my baby.

Im so sorry to hear your story. I just went through something very similiar. I went in for my IPS ultrasound last wk and there was no heart beat (12.5wks) i was told by my dr. that the baby was the size of a 6 wk old. I had to have a D&C.. but now I am torturing myself with the 'what ifs', what if i had demanded a second opinion, another ultrasound? Im worried because I remembered that at 11.5 wks, my hcG level was 454,000 which is insainly huge. my dr. is an idiot and didnt think anything of it, but now doing the research i see that that number is ridiculously high. So i dont know if that means there was a problem with the baby (DS?) or if the baby was alive? they did both a regular ultrasound and a transvaginal one and no heart beat on either. I'll be contacting my dr. after the wknd to find out about that high level. It was not twins, just one baby. I was the worst news i ever got in my life and i could not think clearly. but now i wonder if i should have gotten another ultrasound done before the D&C. i feel sick to my stomach about this and totally heartbroken.

If you were 12.5 weeks and there was no heartbeat and you were measuring at 6 weeks, your baby almost certainly stopped growing/died at 6 weeks. It's not normal to measure that far behind. Your HCG was also incredibly high which could indicate you had a molar pregnancy. I'm not a doctor, but I can say with 99.99% certainty that there is no chance that you could have had a viable pregnancy. I'm sorry for your loss (I believe I just began miscarrying 2 hours ago, so I understand).. but please know that you did the right thing. Waiting could have only harmed your own health.

BTW -- I believe many women don't understand that in early pregnancy (starting around 6 weeks) when doctors say there is a heartbeat it isn't HEARING a heartbeat.. it is seeing the fetal pole flicker. It shows cardiac activity (also known as CA). It there is no movement/flickering it means that there is no cardiac activity/heartbeat.

Hi, I'm going through the same situation. I went in for my first appointment on 01/13/12. The nurse practioner sent us to get an ultrasound to determine my due date. The tech mentioned I was 7weeks and three days. However, a fetal heartbeat could not be found by regular ultrasound or vaginal ultrasound. She had the radiologist come in and tell us I have miscarried. However, I have had no bleeding or cramping. We were so shocked i could not ask detailed questions on how do they know for sure.

I have an appt on Wednesday with my OBGYN doc to determine path forward. The nurse assistant who schedule my appt said that I could wait to have my body expel the fetus (but it could take weeks to a month) or come in take some pills and have the d&c.
I am assuming she will recheck for a fetal heartbeat, my hcg levels, size of the embryo and everything else before moving forward forward. Otherwise, I will request for more tests to prove my baby is not alive. I'm unsure of the d&c myself. However, waiting for my body to pass out my baby would be a lot harder.

Hopefully, you will find the answer that will work best for you. I can't suggest what you should do. Its what feels comfortable with you. Sorry. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. Good luck and may you find peace.

Personally, of those three options, the pills is the worst option. It will FORCE you to miscarry and will be VERY painful (likely even more painful than a natural miscarriage) and you may have to have a D&C anyway. If you are planning to not wait for it to happen naturally you should really consider doing the D&C instead.. you will be sedated and won't feel anything. Google "medical abortion" (which is the same as the pills) and what women who have done it experienced (search this forum even) and you won't want to do it. This early on, however, I would suggest giving it another week and having another ultrasound done.

I would wait a little. DO NOT get the d&c yet. if the child is alive, then you'll have killed it. see it you can get an aultra sound of something, see other doctors, get seccond and third oppinions.
