Mulitple Meniscecs Surgeries...anyone Else Have Repeat Tears Posted: 10-18-07 09:09am
I tore my meniscecs bowling in the fall of
06' and had first surgery 10-06. They
shaved the tear down and took out a few
floaters. Then in March of 07 the pain,
swelling, and fluid build up started
again. Next surgery was May 07. Now after
following every dr order and not even
playing any sports, I feel I have another
tear. Same symptoms as before and I am
going to Dr. today. I wondered if anyone
else has had 3 different tears so close
together????

Wow, three tears?
I tore my meniscus twice-- no surgeries in
between because I was stupid.
Do you wear a brace or anything? I can't
imagine three tears, it hurts!
Is this all from bowling?
Be careful! Even after surgery your
menisces is weak and the more you tear,
the weaker it gets. Try building the
muscle in your quads. It gives more
support so theres less chance of a fourth
tear!

It seems like the dr may be missing
something to me...some underlying cause to
this week meniscecs of mine. Also whats
weird is I havent even done any sports or
walking more than needed since the second
tear and surgery. I felt great for a few
mths between each one. Dr didnt suggest
bracing it although I do wear a ace
bandage on bad days.

Well some people just have bad joints, but
you shouldn't be getting hurt by just
walking. My doctors kept telling my its
because I was so skinny and I didn't have
much muscle, but mine was a basktball
injury.
Ask your doctor about it more-- what does
he say about it? Joint problems are pretty
common and gaining muscle around the knee
will help keep things stable-- and I don't
mean crazy workouts but even if its just
the kind of stuff you do towards the end
of your therapy. I don't think a good
solution would be to not work out. You may
just need to get your legs a little
stronger
