Yaz B C Pills --late Starting My Period Took Antibiotics!

I've been taking YAZ Birth Control Pills
for about 10 months now. My periods have
kinda been irregular since I started YAZ,
one month I was about 5 or 6 days late.
Last month (in September) I had a bladder
infection and took Levaquin (an
antibiotic) for 10 days, while I continued
my YAZ pills daily. Then had sex 7 days
after finishing up the antibiotic. I am
now 5 days late on my period. Any one
have any clue?

I've also been under a tremendous amount
of STRESS!! could that be why I've
skipped my period? I still have not
started but have had cramps like I'm going
to start, but no bleeding yet!

Yaz Plus Antibiotics Plus Late

For SLH: I read the packet, because I
just started Yaz and I have missed my
first period. I too have been active. In
response to what you said, about taking
antibiotics and having sex. I believe that
it says that taking antibiotics reduces
the effectiveness of the pill. You are
likely not pregnant, BUT IF I WERE YOU, I
would definitely take a pregnancy test.
And NO the pregnancy test should not be
affected by taking the pill.

I work in a pharmacy and asked my
pharmacist you CAN get pregnant while
taking an anti-biotic (only a chance
because it make the bc less affective).
But this is only for when it is in you
system. If you didn't have sex until a
week after you finished the anti-biotic it
shouldn't have mattered. Your comment
about being stressed is the problem! Hope
this helps!

Thanks for your thoughts, but doesn't the
antiobiotic stay in your system for at
while to continue fighting the infection
and could it be it could still interfere
with the Birth Control Pill (Yaz) even
after you're done with the entire
antiobiotic prescription? I'm 8 days
late now and I am freaking out, which is
adding to my stress. I bought a pregnancy
test but haven't done the test yet. What
do you think my chances of being pregnant
are? My stepdaughter got pregnant taking
antibiotics while she was on the pill.

Yes some anti-biotics stay in your system
longer but it depends on what you took. If
you want to tell me what you took I can
try to find out for sure for you! And yes
stress can be a big contributer for some
people. Me, stress never makes a
difference. But I know many people it
does. Take you test and if you are still
worried go talk to your pharmacist about
the chances or better yet check with your
doctor! Good luck and hope all goes well!

To anniek: I took Levaquin. Stress
has never made a difference for me
before.

The reason that antibiotics make your bc
less effective is because they change the
way your body absorbs the hormones. So
that would also explain your late period.
Know what I mean?

To Georgia59: Yes I see what you mean,
and that does make sense - the hormone in
my birth control pill was probably
absorbed slower or in a lesser amount
during those 10 days I took Levaquin
(antibiotic). I did not have sex while on
the antibiotic - waited for 6 days later.
So if I took antibiotics for 10 days,
would that mean I will be approximately 10
days late on my period??

I beleive if you waited 6 days after being
done it should not have made a differnce.
But I can check for sure and let you know
tomarrow. I beleive it gets out of your
system with in a couple days. Again you
might want to check with your doc and make
sure to take a test. Hope this helps!

Are you worried about pregnancy or just
when your period will come??
I've heard to wait seven days after the
medicine, but who really knows......

To Georgia59: I'm worried about being
pregnant. Is YAZ a reliable birth
control pill?

To anniek: What do you mean it should

you mean by that statement. If you can
check for sure and let me know tomorrow
that would be great.

She meant that if you waited 6 days, she
didn't think you had a chance of being
pregnant. I've heard 7. But you're
probably fine. I was just wondering if the
issue was when your period came or if you
could be pregnant, or both. I'm guessing
it's both!
Sure Yaz is reliable! It's just as
reliable as the other combined pills. The
it does have some different side
effects/risks, though, so just make sure
you check on that.

Three weeks from the time you had sex
would work. But read the directions on
the test to be sure.

To Georgia59: I took the pregnancy test
today.. I had sex on 9/27; so that is
over 3 weeks.

I'd trust it at this point but again, if
you're not sure, then wait ten days and
test again.

I talked to my boss (a pharmacist) and he
said ANY anti-biotic except for Zithromax
should be out of your system within 24
hours of taking your last pill. So no the
antibiotic wouldn't have made a
difference. Your probably just stressing
or maybe something else is going on. I
would talk to your doctor to make sure!
Hope this helps you and good luck!
