I have amenorrhea for almost 7 months now. My Ob gave me pills to jumpstart my period (the name is PROVERA: Medoxy Progesterone) to be taken 2 times a day for 5 days. It's day4 today but still i have not yet bleed or anything, but the doc said, i will start bleeding 2 days after i finish taking all the pills. Had anyone else taken this kind of prescription? tell me about it please.

Question no.1:What is its side effects, does it include weight gain, or anything?

Question no.2:What if i didn't get my period 2 days after i finish taking the pills or what if i never get it? Does that mean i that a am pregnant? (coz i heard that Provera was once used as a pregnancy test?), though i did not have sex, but am still worried.

HELP ANYONE?

I've never heard that provera was used as a pregnancy test. Honestly, if you're worried about it, go get a pregnancy test! They're not expensive. But if you didn't have sex, why are you even worried about it? You need to calm down, girl. (deep breaths)

I've never taken it so I don't really know about side effects, but since you only take it for 5 days I can't imagine it could do anything like cause you to gain weight. Don't worry about it.

Never heard that about being a pregnancy test. I have taken it before but it has been awhile. I dont remember any side effects. I have endometriosis and PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). With the PCOS I would go months in between periods. Do you possibly have that?

last time when i had my ultrasound for a test, the radiologist toldme that i should consider polycystic disease. WHat kind of disease is that? Am i not ovulating?

You should get that checked out. This site is pretty informative and should answer your questions.

Why didn't the doctor say anything about it? That seems irresponsible. It could be related to your amenorrhea.

Hi, I tried the exact same method, provera for 5 days to induce period, and mine was unsuccessful. I had amenorrhea for almost 2 years, and recently it came back but it came back naturally, not as a result of the Provera. I can't speak for everyone bc everyone reacts differently, but I was really depressed after I took the Provera for only 5 days. I don't know how much was due to the despair of not having the results I wanted and how much was actually due to the drug itself though. I did gain weight, or maybe water weight, which didn't do well for my depression, and my skin broke out. Maybe I'm just really sensitive to it.

It's strange, my doctor wasn't very informative about provera either...he merely PROMISED me that I wouldn't gain weight and that my period would definitely come within a week of finishing the provera. He was wrong on both counts, and after that I couldn't even get him to answer my emails or phone calls to request for my medical test records. Best of wishes to you, hope it works out better for you than it did for me =)
