Hi,
I can't even count how many treatments and how much money i've spent on my jaw pain but I'm feeling pretty helpless at this point and my jaw consistenly aches near the tmj joint. I'm doing something at night time but I don't think it's grinding or clenching since I've had probably 5 night guards/NTI's and none provide me relief. I think what I'm doing is shifting my jaw back and forth and biting down on my gums. It's my only explanation at this point because none of my teeth are chipping or wearing away. When I was very young, I had this same habit during the day where I would shift my jaw and sort of bite down on the gum or tissue in between the joint. It was a habit cause it sort of felt good to do this movement and its hard to explain. Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone can relate and do you know of any treatments for this. A friend told me she knew of a nightguard that held the upper and lower jaws together but i've never seen this although it seems like it would prevent the shifting.

I like your name. It is exactly what i have been doing for my whole life. I know how hard this will be to digest--i have found something that works. I couldnt digest it till it started working. ive sent many people to this and they also have had success. I used to do the same thing that you do. I dont do it anymore and i dont have the constant ache. pm me and we will talk.

Even though you cant remember all your treatments ---just for curiosity sake can you just list some of them and some of your other symptoms?

Hi TMJFighter,
Yes, there are splints that prevent our teeth from shifting sideways. I also had this problem somewhat. I somehow got out of it. I do wear a modified repositioning splint, but don't know if that did it or other treatments. In my opinion, it's very difficult to find the type of specialist we are looking for especially near where we live so I can't tell you how to find such a person, but do lots of Internet research, email dentists and make phone calls. Make a list of specific questions you want to ask when you seek out that specialist.

Keep up the fight. Smile I hope and pray you find what you are looking for.
God bless...
Carol
