I had a total hysterectomy 30 days ago.they just removed my uterus.Doctor made a 6 inches vertical abdominal incision. He said my uterus was huge to do it any ohter way.
I am recovering fine, no fever, scar healing ok, except for the pain and discomfort I get.Mainly at night. It feels like somethings is ripping my intestines.Feels like cramps.I wake up and take Vicodin and that takes the pain away.During the day I walk, but when I eat the discomfotr in the stomach comes back.I want to go see a gastroenterologist.
I am depressed though.I cry for no reason.Worried that I should be ok by now.Worried that I Iwill never be normal and go back to my normal active life.I am 48 now .I work full time and I used to play a lot of racquetball and do a lot of activities.
Is this normal? is 30 days too short of a time to not have pain? Does the vertical incision takes longer to heal?. Most of people in the forum had the horizontal c-section incisions.PLEASE SOMEBODY ANSWER I AM GOING CRAZY. I CALLED THE DOCTOR WHO OPERATED ON ME AND CAN'T SEE ME UNTIL THE 25th.OF OCTOBER Sad I POSTED A QUESTION BEFORE HERE BUT NOBODY HAS ANSWERED

no!!!! your not crazy, i thought i was too listen i'm 37 i had to have an emergency hystrectomy and they left my ovaries intact, i lived a normal life before this it was 15 weeks ago today that i had the surgery and i feel and felt everything you said. i have never been so depressed in my whole life i feel ugly, the incion across my stomache makes me sick its still sore, my boobs kill, i have no desire to do anything, my dr tells me it's because i had no choices and i never had time to really understand what was going to happen to me. i really just want to run away and be by myself no one and i mean no one understands, but i truley understand you.

Hysterectomy
hi, i don't know if anyone has replied to you yet, but i will tell you what is going on, the uterus is one great part of what women are, your body's reaction to a huge loss is normal, eventhough you are psychologically prepared, also, the reaction to anesthetics can give some depression to sensitive patients, do not worry. there is only one concern, after 30 days, there should be hardly no pain at all, and taking vicodin is a bit risky, since it is highly habit forming, you may want to change to ibuprofen (600 mgs.), it is odd that this doctor did not give you the option of laparoscopy procedure, it leaves only a 2 cms. scar on each sides of your lower stomach, were they cut, and then the uterus is taken out through the vagina, good luck!
