I am a twenty-seven year old mother of a
six-year-old child. Three years ago I was
went to the emergency room with sever pain
in my lower abdomen. The er doctor told me
that I have a cyst on one of my ovaries
and several tumors on the other. He had
advised me to do a follow up with my
obgyn. I did the follow up and after a
biopsy my dr told me that I have mild
dysphasia. Yet there was no mention about
the tumors or cysts! He just prescribed me
a different birth control pill and told me
to write a pain journal. Over the past
year I have had extreme pain, most like I
had three years ago, however I no longer
have insurance. The pain was so intense as
well as frequent urination; being nauseous
and bloating I had thought that I was
pregnant, until a week ago, which was
confirmed by menstruation. Yet I am still
having pain, as well as the need to go to
the bathroom very often. Lower back pain,
goes with this and still being nauseous,
pants being too tight. Sometimes the pain
just stops me right in my tracks, and I am
bent over clenching my lower abdominal. Do
I have cause for concern? Should I seek
medical advice, have a CA 125 test? Please
help, with no insurance I am trying to
figure this out on my own.

You need to go see a doctor!
Dysplasia has nothing to do with ovarian
cancer. Dysplasia is a change in the cells
on your cervix.

Ovarian cancer?
I understand that dysphasia is
precancerous cells, which my obgyn dr told
me they had found in my uterus lining. He
had told me this was a result of HPV, yet
it was never confirmed as to whether I
have HPV or not, no testing that is. He
really just brushed me off every time I
would visit him to tell him of my pain. He
would give me a pap, then that was it. I
have had two abnormal paps and one normal
pap in three years. Little confusing. The
problem is I have no insurance and the
last time I visited the er they were not
much help to my situation. My main concern
is the pain, looking as though I am
pregnant when I clearly know that I am
not, spending much of my day in the
bathroom when I monitor my fluid intake. I
know my body, my doctor told me that my
pain was attributed to the cysts that I
have and that with use of contraceptive
the pain would go away, cysts go to
normal, that sort of thing. I have since
stopped using contraceptive four months
ago because I had read that it increases
the chance of cancer. The pain is worst
now without contraceptive, yet tolerable
with. Thanks for your reply.

Are you getting your pap smears every
year? In light of the dysplasia, it would
be prudent to do so. 70% of cervical
abnormalities are caused by HPV. As there
is no cure for HPV.
Dysplasia can correct itself. The
underlying problem is the HPV. It will
never go away. Keep getting your pap
smears. ~ This would not be connected to
the pain you are having.
Hrm... You may want to ask the risks of
birth control causing cancer on the birth
control board. Carifairy is VERY
knowledgable about all things birth
control. I had never heard of it causing
cancer.
Your best bet is going to be to go see a
doctor about your cysts. The ER won't be
of any help because they will only tell
you to go see your regular physician for
follow up. The ER isn't there to fix
problems, they only treat the immediate
issue.
You will need to find a gynecologist to
help you.
Good luck!

I have had pap smears every year since I
was 13. I am due for one this month, my
only hold up is the insurance, cost it
will be out of pocket, single mother,
financial hardship at the moment. I my
understanding is that dysplasia most of
the time will clear up on its own. My main
concern, or maybe over concern, is with my
ovaries, as several types of cancer has
run in my family on both sides. Thank you
for your help and your advice. At this
point in time the only thing I can do is
look for a open clinic in my area. I have
now have a better understanding of how
important medical insurance is.
