Q: Is there Lactose In Bcps?

All right, so I want to go on birth control pills soon because I’ve started having sex and I want my periods to be more regular.

So I thought I'd do some research and I found that BCPs have lactose in them. Ugh, I've been lactose intolerant ever since I came to college and I'm wondering if there's enough lactose in BCP to give me any problems?--I mean, I know there's probably not much lactose in BCP but I've learned to become skeptical about everything I take in. There's nothing worse than dealing with my lactose intolerance when I'm sitting in a lecture class... Embarassed

Hmmm... I'm not sure if it would be enough to bug you. But if it is, you have other options, like the ring or the patch, or an IUD or depo. None of those have lactose, because I'm sure it's just used as a base, right?

The insert in my bc pills saying that they contain lactose but its not a significant enough amount to bother someone with lactose intolerance unless they have an extreme case

I do compounding in a pharmacy and yes lactose is a filler. I really don't know if it would be enough to affect someone who has an allergy. We havn't had anyone with that yet! Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you start to make sure, like Georgia said maybe you could try another form. Good luck!

haha yeah, I realize I was being dumb.

I was just pokin around for something I could take to get rid of my problem and then every site was warning women who have a lactose intolorance about birth control.

I was at my limit that week and it made my consideration for starting birth control seem like I was considering poison!

Thanks for the help though!
