Q: Condolence Card Question

nick's cousin died on saturday, he was only 22. he'd been struggling with MD his whole life and went in for surgery on saturday. from what we heard he either had a heart attack during or after surgery and he passed away.

nick hasn't seen this family in many many years and i've never met them. what do i write in the condolence card we're sending? i've actually been lucky enough that i've never had to deal with death on a personal level, so i'm kind of clueless here.

since nick hasn't seen them in ages and i don't know them at all i don't want to come across as insincere. we have had a little contact, they sent gifts for finn when he was born and they just sent a wedding gift, and i sent them a christmas card last year.

"we are truly sorry for your loss" - i don't really like the way that sounds.

"we are deeply saddened by your loss" - ?

anything?

The second one sounds good.

Also "Our thoughts are with you" You can also replace 'thoughts' with prayers.
