Q: Never Thought It Would Be So Frustrating

To feed Kaylee!
It's starting to get really awful & I'm thinking she's going to be a really picky eater! She usually does real good, as most of ya know, she's on whole milk now. Well I *try* giving her cheerios & milk for breakfast so she won't need a bottle, Yeah . Hasn't worked! She'll eat maybe 10-15 cheerios then she'll act like she's starving to death for a bottle! So I give her her bottle of milk, it's usually 7-8 ounces give or take. Then she'll usually snack on either cheerios, gerber puffs, fresh fruit when we have it, applesauce, things like that .. Lunch time is the same way, I'll try giving her actual FOOD & she'll be interested in it for a few bites then she's done, she wants a bottle. It's the same for dinner also.
I feel like I'm failing at getting her off the bottle & onto real food. & I don't feel like she's getting all the vitamins she needs. Do you guys give your toddlers vitamins? Is she too young for Flintstones or something like those?
Then just when I didn't think I could get more aggravated when it comes time to feed Kaylee .. Her newest "thing" is to chew the food up & spit it all right back out. It's not even with any new foods, it's the same foods she's been eating fine for the last few months.
& all of this goes back to having problems getting her to drink out of a cup ..
I feel like I'm starting to fail at being a mom already!

Anyone else have a hard time when it comes to meal time & bottles & cups?

Am I really pushing too hard to get her on real food & off that bottle?

I know how you feel hun, Jenny's terrible at eating. She hates most textures, & even if she gets used to something, like banana, after a while she just spits it out. She only has 2 teeth & I don't know if that makes a difference, but she doesn't really chew things. I have to spoon-feed her the stage 1 baby food, some pureed fruit & yoghurt. I do try her on proper food but she doesn't want it, so what else can I do. She used to try drinking out of her sippy cup, but now she pushes it away, so she never drinks at meal times. She still has three 7 oz bottles a day, so I think she's getting enough fluid.

If Kaylee used to eat stuff without spitting it back out, I'm guessing she's just going through a phase.. it'll pass. I think the fact that she still has bottles isn't a problem at her age, all babies are different. Hungrier babies tend to come off the bottles sooner because they're so good at eating solids, but they all get there in the end.

Don't worry, you're not failing as a mum!! Maybe you should try something like porridge at breakfast, something that has plenty of milk in it. At meal times if she doesn't want any more of her food, stop feeding her for a few minutes & eat your own food.. that way she might see yours & want some. That's what I'd do anyway.

I hope this is just an awkward phase that Miss Kaylee is going through.. & I hope it doesn't last long!

Thanks a lot Zanny, I'm glad I'm not the only mom with a fussy eater! I think (or I hope) Kaylee spitting the food out is just a phase .. & I hope it's over with soon!
I'm going to start trying some new things for breakfast with her, see if she does any better. I think I've figured out a lot of her problem is she hates her high chair. I'm thinking about just getting a booster seat, maybe if she can sit at the table & feel like she's a big girl she'll do a little better with mealtime!

sorry, i don't have any advice since finn is a piglet. so far the only things he didn't like were bean burritos and scrambled eggs.

i was just wondering about the cheerios and milk. are you giving her a bowl of cereal? how does she eat it? finn doesn't use a spoon yet (well, he likes to hold one while he's eating), but i want to give him more breakfast options.

Sorry I didn't reply back to this sooner B. I completely forgot I made this post!

As for the cheerios & milk, I make just a bowl of cereal & either feed it to her or she likes it if I put the wet cheerios on her tray for her to eat. She's not a fan of just plain dry cheerios anymore but if I have them in milk she loves it. She hasn't wanted me to be feeding her lately so that's how I've been doing it.

Also just recently we found out the she LOVES Captain Crunch cereal! She snacks on them & it gives me a chance to grab something to eat or get something accomplished.

Ugh & we got a booster seat & she tries climbing out of it just like she does with her high chair. I don't want to make it a habit of me holding her food & her just grabbing it when she wants it & running around the house but I don't know what else to do! I mean she has to eat!
