So, I figured we could take a step back and out of the penis related questions for a bit and talk about our personal conceptions on theology, the existence of a God, and the sort. However, I understand there are those who are very serious about their religions, productive debate is fine but if you aren't mature enough to express your beliefs without putting down others, your thoughts aren't needed. Just simple discussion for the openminded and the curious.

I personally am Agnostic, some Christians I knew considered that to be the same thing as Atheist as far as they were concerned, but to be agnostic is to believe that we with our current knowledge have no way to prove the existence of a God (does not mean he does or doesn't exist), so an agnostic can either choose to not believe until proven, or believe until proven false. I just don't think we being mortals despite our advancement in human history, can really postulate the existence of something so incredibly above us. Like explaining to a man of the 14th century what artificial intelligence is.

What is God anyway? Classical Theistic Conception of God states that it is a Being who is wholly perfect, omnipotent, omniscient, and omni-benevolent.

For me personally, it really isn't about God that I question the existence of, but rather the religions that I am concerned about. To make things short, I am more anti-religion then I am anti-God. I just refuse to believe in religion because they have been altered so much by HUMANS throughout the ages. It is not as if however, that I have chose to be ignorant and not hear/know what the religion is about. Turns out I know quite a bit of stories of Christianity (varying from the different branches however), sometimes more then the believers themselves. I know a bit of Paganism, Daoism, Confusionism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc and even Levey Satanism. Turns out Satanism isn't quite like it was stereotyped to be.

But anyway, onward to God, for the moment I can simply and readily accept that there are beings who are at least "Godly" compared to me or humans in general. Suppose aliens do exist (which I think there has to be considering that scientists say there are more suns then all the grains of sand in the world [imagine the amount of planets even if it were on average 2 per sun! since our sun has 8, I think they trashed Pluto as a planetoid], if any alien were to visit us on earth one day, just consider the difference in knowledge and technological capabilities! The nearest sun from us I think is over 4 light years away, imagine what they are capable of to exceed such things! To us they would certainly be "Godly" because they probably have technology to squash us like a bug.

Concerning the Classical Theistic Conception of God however, I think it is false, just a controversy. Perhaps there could be an all perfect being, omniscient and omnipotent, but I do not see why people have to keep seeing it as a omni-benevolent God. I think people are just too hopeful and prefer the idea of a being that is far greater then us that cares for us then one who would eliminate us like a fly.

OK, Miko, I like your theory. Now mine...How to word this without sounding trite? Yes, Jesus is the son of GOD. But so am I. He was a profit and a saint. I am no profit and I am definitely no saint. But I to am the son of GOD. As are you. As are we all. We are all GODS children. No religion, no belief in GOD, no belief in goodness for goodness sake is wrong. Its all good. Its all real. There is good and bad, fact and fiction and wrong and right in all forms of religion and spiritual belief. Its all wrong and yet its all right. You have to dig deeper than any one solitary religion can lead you. Truth is to be found in the journey, not the destination. There is no final destination. We all go on. We live and live again and then we live again and what we put into each life directs us to the next. Our karma directs our destiny. Good for goodness sake leads you to GOD. John Lennon is a saint to me. In the purist since of the word. He was crucified, not literally, and threatened for speaking his truth. Harvey Milk is a saint to me. He died from a bullet to the head...several, because of love misunderstood. Anyone who looses there life in a quest for equal rights for all or peace on earth or understanding of GOD or love for loves sake or goodness for goodness sake is a saint. Those who are well known and those unknown. They move forward. They go on. They live. As all saints do. Forever and ever, amen....
Do not put your trust or your faith in televangelists.
Never give them one penny. Do not bye into the rants and ravings of money grubbing religious zealots. If a man of GOD is telling you how to worship and how to pray and telling you who will and will not enter the kingdom of Heaven then turn them off. They are not men of God. They are judgmental money worshipers spreading hate and intolerance in the name of righteousness and truth. Do not by into it. Do not give them your time or your money. I believe that always giving your money to a church is lazy and foolish. Some money should go to your church but not to a television evangelist. If you truly want to do Gods work then get busy. Do not drop your money into a bucket and blindly hand it over to men in suits. Go to the store or superstore and bye socks, shirts, underwear, food, tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, food, food, food, blankets, pillows, towels,...you get it? And take them to a shelter. Be giving but be smart. Evangelists and churches on TV have plenty of money and cars and homes and jewels and all the comforts of this world. Don't reward them with more free money hoping that they will pray for you. I will pray for you for free...and so should they. No tipping allowed! Take 2 or 3 hours and how ever much you can afford to spend and spend an afternoon giving to those who really need it. Thats when you will feel God. It feels so good. Don't be rigid. Flex your mind. Stretch your soul. Bend your way of thinking about religion and God... he is everywhere...or she...or something in between...thats my 2 cents...anyone else out there care 2 share? respect Peace and Love,Steve Cool

I'm obsessed with religion.

I study it, I read about it in my free time, and I try my best to relate to those who follow it. I've been to Orthodox temples in Eastern Europe, huge Cathedrals in Rome, Mammoth Anglican churches in the UK and in Hindu and Jain temples and Muslim mosques in India. I love them all.

Instead of trying to polarise all of them, and decide what is right or wrong about each of them, I embrace the truth I find in everything. Believe it or not, I believe that there is a breath of truth in each religion. I believe in THAT truth. Call it God, a higher force, non-rationality (not to be confused with irrationality), the great "energy"... whatever you want... It's there. I believe that, yes, humans have messed up and interpreted and exploited the concept of this higher truth to not only suit their thirst for power, but they have also used it as a means to validate their 'rightness' and, therefore, their ability to judge the rest. THIS is the biggest plight of humans.

I dont' try to convert people to how I think and believe, I don't think than anyone is necessarily wrong about their devout religious views, because, in the end, like the rest of us, they are fulfilling their quest for finding what is true and real. I critique it, but I don't judge based on it. Many people, in general, I feel, have fallen to quests for power, influence and supremacy. It's so important to try to break from that and seek truth with deep, personal seeking.

My current efforts are being focused on Atheism. I've been reading lots of Richard Dawkins... Atheism is a hard nut to crack.

In the end, I'm a firm believer that putting strong effort into seeking truth, is, in fact, a mimicking of truth itself: continually educating yourself based on your deep, inner assertions.

They're arrogant, pompous, and, if you believe in anything supernatural, you may be a bit insulted even. But if you take it with a grain of salt, he's informative and comical.

Dawkins is often depicted as an arrogant man but I believe his argument is in earnest. As an evolutionary biologist, his concern shouldn't be whether he's offending believers or not, his concern is to be as pragmatic as he honestly can be. Indoctrinated religion can be extremely harmful as we've all seen throughout history. It is probably best left a totally private, individual matter.

Personally I'm an atheist, not an agnostic. Agnosticism seems to be a submission to pre-set principles in society. To someone who considers themselves a strong agnostic, borderline atheist, they should have the impartiality to ignore past belief systems and form their own opinions from scratch.

Truth is, no-one will ever prove or disprove the existence of the metaphysical, therefore it is something that should probably be ignored completely. It does make for heated debates but the more I argue with religious types the more they twist their arguments to the point where they become unintelligible.

God
Jesus is the TRUE son of God. He is perfect because he has no earthly father, like God. But since we have an earthly father we are sinful. It is the fathers fault because Adam took the apple knowing it was the wrong type, but Eve was decieved. As we are all the son of God not everyone believes in God or the trinity. Now though this is hard to explain the trinity is God, Jesus, And the holy spirit.
God made the earth and all who inhabit it
Jesus was sent to rid us of our sins
The Holy Spirit cleanses us today
rainbowflag Everyone used to live in one place with one language, but we thought we could build a tower to heaven. But God stopped us and scattered us to different countrys and gave us different languages. If theres no God, tell me what did this and more.

A quote I loved “I am an agnostic practicing atheism.”

I don’t believe in god but I leave my mind open in the case that, we end up finding out about an intelligent designer, although I am more a pantheist, believing in a more nature/evolutionary way of thinking.

All religions look toward a certain or multiple god, in that case which one is right, must we accept all of them or none at all, since there is truths to every religion, although, it was manipulated by man, the bible itself was written 200 years after Jesus’ death by man of course. Mithraism believed in the consumption of god, therefore wouldn’t that mean we are god?

I don’t believe in perfectionism, I think we have been led to believe in falsities, superstitions and idolatry because of this which has damager our race of homo-sapiens over centuries of history, such as the Christian crusade and war, they are always religion related. They are trying to create a perfect race but as any good scientist knows, they want to surpass what they have done without creating the perfect ordeal. What I mean is that evolution is based on surpassing the previous, without creating something perfect, if we did, we would be doomed, what do you need when everything has been obtained?

There is scriptures that state we aren’t complete yet but the question afterwards is, can humans become gods?

I feel religion can limit our perceptions and does not allow us to think freely, the world of religion is seen in black and white and not in a multitude of colors for which the world really is. It is like saying the sky is blue and I say its red, technically we are not wrong but we aren’t right, scientifically the sky is clear and reflects upon the mass bodies of water on Earth.

What irritates me about religion, is bigotry, I am bi-sexual/more so gay not in an attention manner but in a fact I truly love woman, religion does not allow me to have emotions for same-sex as it is not right, which why I partially don’t agree with it, they talk about sanctity of marriage when the divorce rates are 50%. According to Genesis, Woman were meant to compliment men, as well as be submissive but I am dominant and I have no place in a religious world.

According to Christianity, people started appearing in Mesopotamia roughly about 6000 years ago but according to science, evolution and math it doesn’t correspond with fossils or the earth’s layers.

My conclusion is if religion told you to jump off a bridge would you do it? Why or why not? Just answer the question without being theoretical…

I know you said no woman, just look at me as one of the boys lmao Razz

Wow, talk about bringing a topic back up from the dead. I wrote this around when I first became a moderator... I've never had a response until Homer so I thought nothing of it and assumed the men here (at the time) were dull and only wish to talk about why their penis is lacking, etc. =P

I'd have to say my thoughts concerning religion has improved somewhat since this original topic.

The only reason why I joked about no women was simply for the fact that at the time, I was chided for having responded to the women's chatroom although they would do the same in ours. Again, I am impressing upon you that I only took this as a comical thing. Though however, in terms of the rules, you should not be responding here.

jeycfrench, thank you for the informative distinction between the sons and daughters of God, as opposed to Jesus (assuming what you said was accurate and not an opinion). I had completely forgotten about the Tower of Babel as well.

Oh well
We can spend the rest of our lives talking about HIM.
First things First. God is HOLY. And the meaning of the word is poorly understood by humans beings. They want to think that God is GOOD, which HE is also. To start understanding GOD you have to LOVE HIM first. He is the ALPHA and The OMEGA he has no begining or end and how a mortal being like us can understand an inmortal being. Let me tell you, you can't. When we can not understand why a child in Africa Died, or why insignificant beings like us have the understanding of atomic energy or Quantum Computers, is because he knows the past and the future of our HIstory, and he knows the time lines of HUMANS, how we change and alter our own history, and he Allows this because HE loves us, HE made us to be like him, knowing the good and the EVIL and like a father allows his teeneger son to comit mistakes He allows us to make mistakes too.
When you undestand the chemsetry, physics, and biology laws of this planet you have to believe in HIM.
When you see other religions, only the Christian Religion gives us Hope in the future, gives US Hope to keep trying to improve our world and to keep trying to resolve our problems. Only the Christian Religion has a God dying for us, and teaching us of absolute love. No other God try to Save us from us. (sin) and create a global conciusness, and create even a conciousness in our enviorment and animals, and the Universe in General. I was an atheist once, when I was very young. and I started reading the bible as part of my presonal culture, and believe me the difference between the bible and other religious book is amazing. I recomend you to do the same. GODSPEED>

To ponder God
With the understanding that God is all that is fair & good. The unanswered questions of why does God allow bad things to happen? can maybe answered as thus, if God were not also fair to satan or the forces of bad how would that make God fair, if the option of choice in our lives were taken from us by God How could that also be fair, maybe this is why we are seemingly left to our own resources sometimes because we have the choice to choose right or wrong, but it is up to us to research for ourselves & be sure what we believe is true & correct or we will pay for our choices on the judgement day (if you so believe)!

This certainly is a debate that will go on until the end , however that comes. I am a Christian. Not because I was raised that way or blindly want to believe in something but because of the evidence that existes. I've heard over and over how there is no proof but always from people who haven't spent one minute looking for any. The bible in it's self is one of the most historically accurate books in existence. That at least says something. The bible was not written 200 years after the fact according to recent study...it's more like around 50 years ..give or take..anyway if you take a look at how acient works are written, it's very common for things not be be recorded until many many years later. I have heard that the history of napolenion was wriiten 500 years after the fact and is consider to be accurate. It's worth noting that many have tried to disprove the Bible and no one has. I think it's a good idea for everyone to research what they want to believe in. People who are looking for absolute proof will never find it because there would be no need for faith. Which is an important part of Christianity. However there is alot of proof and you just have to take the time to decide for yourself. The bottom line for me is that if I'm wrong I haven't really lost anything, being kind to others and not killing anyone or stealing or fooling around with my neighbours wife or giving a few bucks once in awhile to a Christian cause, (anyway ya get the idea), doesn't seem like much to me. However if I'm right and there is a God and he did send his son Jesus to teach man what God wants of us and died for our sins, I'll be glad to have been a Christian, because the penelty for rejecting God doesn't sound all that good. Guess we'll all find out sooner or later.
