Why cant we all just fight for the same things?

We all know that no matter how hard anyone fights or protests, abortion will always be legal.

I see that PC's arent *pro-abortion*... they are simply, *pro-choice*.. women who want the right to do with their bodies as they see fit.

And PL's will always be in favor of doing anything they can to save the life of an unborn child.. thats all. Not take away the rights of a woman.. we just want to see the babies born. Thats all.

But suppose we start fighting the battle of reducing the NEED for abortion down to next to nothing by EDUCATING people on safer sex, or abstinance until ready for a child? That would satisfy both sides.

Just a suggestion.

I do agree that education needs to be better but there will always be cases where abortion is chosen (for example I chose to abort after my birth control failed, no amount of additional education would have prevented me from getting pregnant and there will always be those cases). Abstinance should be taught alongside birth control etc but it is a persons right to choose not to wait until sleeping with someone, and what about those women who never want children?

As for the part I have bolded, what difference does it make to you personally whether or not I have a child or abort?

to me, being pro-life means to not be selective when it comes to human life-- meaning, to me, that each individual life, be it mine or yours is just as significant as the other and deserves to live just as much as you and I.

I do understand the PL position and whilst I diagree wholeheartedly I respect everybody's opinions. However, I don't understand how what I do with my body effects someone who has no idea who I am.

I agree 100% Rainfire.. battling the need for abortion; treating the cause not the effect would be most beneficial. Sex ed, contraceptive education and availablity; mostly putting out real information and stopping sterotypes that only 'bad' girls get pregnant and a guy is a 'stud' for 'making it to home base' with a girl..

Education kept me from physical curiosity until I was 19. That was plenty old enough for me.

Sex ed!! Totally important. And sex ed is definitely lacking right now, with people who still think abstinence only is a good way to go.

lacking isnt the word for it.

HAve you seen the statistics on teen moms?? It seems that every year that goes by more and more are pregnant.

When i was in high school, there was 1 girl my junior year, 1 girl a year behind me, and from what i understand a girl in our senior year (I graduated early so i didnt go my senior year to see) but after that there were atleast 5 a year.. so much so they created a program in my high school for the teen moms ao they didnt have to get up quite so early to get to first period. (because of staying up with the babies and such.)

Its becoming what seems like an epidemic. I am not saying teen moms are bad.. just it seems they are becoming less and less educated and careless.

No actually, teen pregnancy rates are going down, at their lowest rate in 30 years.

http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/2006/09/12/ USTPstats.pdf Here is an article...

The article is very thorough and gives stats for teenage pregnancy, abortion, and births from the 70's to now.

BUT we have the highest teen pregnancy rate (still) among the Western world, even though our teens are NOT more sexually active. They are just under educated or do not have access to contraceptives.

no, the girls have access to contraceptives. The health Dept has stuff like that for free as does planned parenthood. I dont know a teen girl that doesnt know that.

it all boils down to teens having this burning desire to have something to *love* and care for. Why they feel this is what i want to know.

Rainfire, you're nose is fine. Smile In fact it's quite lovely.

I really don't think many teen girls in the us have babies because they want them or that they want something to care for. I don't have anything to back that up except my personal experience, but then, you don't have anything to say that I'm wrong either. I mean, how come teen pregnancy rates are lower in other countries, but actual rates of having sex are higher?? Do you really think that american girls are the only who desire babies??

Please please PLEASE Ignore him, his posts are still sickening even after he was warned by the administrator of this website! He will be banned soon enough.

I do believe that pro-choice and pro-life can work together to help prevent abortion. I would love to see the only abortions be medically needed ones or ones done for rape, etc (the usual exceptions).

Teenagers and sex? Read the newest study:

Newly Released Studies Show that Young People Don't Know Much about Sexual Health, but that's Not Stopping Them

A Kaiser Family Foundation study released in May reports that many young people are uninformed about sexual health issues. Another report released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy found that one in five young people have had sexual intercourse by the time they turn 15. Unfortunately, young people's lack of information is not translating into a lack of sexual activity.

Included in the Kaiser study:

* more than one-third of 15 to17 year-olds reported having had oral sex, but one in five did not know that sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) could be transmitted through oral sex.
* Almost half of 15 to 17 year-olds do not think that oral sex is "as big of a deal as intercourse" and 40 percent of teens think that oral sex is "safer sex."
* 37 percent of 15 to 17 year-olds have had sexual intercourse and, according to other studies, 66 percent of young people have had sex by the time they graduate high school. Moreover, the Kaiser study found that 24 percent of adolescents and young adults say that drugs or alcohol influenced their decision to have sex and 70 percent say that their peers do not use condoms when drugs or alcohol are involved.
* 20 percent of people ages 13 to 24 said that they believed that birth control pills protect against STDs and AIDS, and ten percent believe that condoms are only necessary if "you have a lot of sexual partners."
* Half of young people said they had been tested for HIV or other STDs, but 30 percent incorrectly assumed that these tests are performed in routine medical care.
* About one in three teens reported having been in a relationship where things were moving too fast sexually.
* 63 percent of 15 to 17 year-olds said that "waiting to have sex is a nice idea but nobody really does it."

Well, of course. Teenagers are basically hormones given human shape. They don't look at sex and go 'Well, I don't know everything about this, maybe I should research', they go 'Penis... Vagina... WOOHOO! Wait... pregnancy? STD? :O'

The least we can do is try and get them to do it safely.
