Q: Ileal volvulus + malabsorbtion problem

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago, and have been well and very sportive since then. 5 weeks ago, I was rushed to hospital with a sudden onset severe abdominal pain. After blood tests and X-ray ( not scan) I had an emergency ileal resection of 1 meter of necrotic tissue.
I am making a slowish recovery due I think to premature discharge from hospital with no dietary advice ( I live in Spain), and although I ate a bland diet was unable to control the diarrhea. I didn't realise that it should be completely fat free. I am now taking cholestyramina resin which is helping, as I was having a malabsorbtion problem.
In view of the fact that I am a vegetarian and practice sport, is it likely that this was a factor or is the volvulus more likely to have been caused my adhesions, and is it likely to happen again, or are there any precautions I could take ?
I would be grateful for a medical opinion.
