Q: Teething Question

I am wondering if my three month old is teething already? It seems way too early but he has been drooling, chewing and crying more than usual. I don't feel any teeth on the bottom of his left side where the first molar will probably be, I see actual white that has already gone through the skin. It is not at the top where teeth come in but really on the side. It's crazy. It's only noticeable if you look.

What do you all think?

Kaylee was right around 3 months when she started teething so it's not impossible! Her first tooth didn't actually break through until she was almost 11 months though.

Jaylon got his first tooth around 3 months. He is almost 7 months and has 2 teeth on the bottom and we can see one of the top front getting ready to pop through.

my son had his 1st tooth at 2.5 months and by 3 months he had both bottom...so there is really no minimum age ....some babies are born with a couple of teeth!

Alfie is only just 2 months and he's just started doing the same thing. Hes been chewing his fist constantly for about a week now and is drooling everywhere!! His been really grizzly too, I put that down to him having his jabs on wednesday but now I am not so sure.

My health visitor said it can be common for babies to be teething really early most of the time its just the teeth moving down through the gums and not actually cutting through. But I dont know whether they would still chew and dribble with this??? Confused

I'M sorry but that doesnt make sense. teething means when teeth are cutting and a child doesnt teeth for 8 months without anything cutting. So she wasnt teething until 11 months hun. Also, just because a baby drools is not an definate indication of teething, babies do have lots of saliva and soemtime they just dont swallow it.

As in my post above - I was told babies can be 'teething' without there being teeth actually cutting through. They can just be moving downwards. As with most things some babies arent bothered by it and some are. As far as I am aware its all called the same thing.

as far as i know that teething includes moving down and cutting . teeth do not move down and then decide to stop for 8 months. fact. teeth also do not go in and out as some people here thought once.....

Please dont think I am arguing here because I am not, I am only talking about my own experiences.
I have a close friend who is a dentist and when my eldest son was 11 weeks old he looked in everyway like he was teething. I told her about it and she said there was every possibility that his teeth were moving downwards causing him some discomfort and that it could be that he wont get his teeth actually showing themselves for months. She told me its common because all teeth have to go through the same process. Aydan didnt actually get a tooth cut through the gum untill he was 13 months old.

When I saw the health visitor the other day I asked again (because as I said Alfie 'seems' to be teething) she said the same thing.

I guess everyone goes by what they are told and by their own situations.

around 2 months babies begin producing a lot more saliva and they don't really know how to swallow while they're not eating, hence the major drooling. this is also the time when they find their hands and begin gnawing on them.

he could be teething, but it's probably just the normal baby thing.

That would make sense and it could be the jabs making him alittle stressed. I hope it is I dont really want him teething yet poor thing!!

Eadie is doing the same thing and she is 10 weeks, just over 2 months old. She drools and bites down on her hand and my finger instead of sucking on them like she used to. She does it with her soother too. She seems fussier than usual when she does this too, so I was thinking the same thing about the teething. I remember when I was getting my wisdom teeth, how much that hurt. And it took them about 3 years to finish growing. They did start and stop because they would hurt for a while then not bother me for a long time. I don't know if that's the same as baby teeth but I sure hope it doesn't hurt as much. Anyway, hope your little guy isn't too uncomfortable.

my wisdom teeth do that too. i get ferocious pain for a month or two each year and then nothing for another year. I wish they'd either just come all the way through or just stop. It doesn't matter anyway because I'm going to have to have them pulled because I don't have enough room in my mouth for them so they're coming in crooked. The front part of the teeth came through the proper place in my gums but the back parts are coming out of the side. If that's what our poor babies are going through then I know why they're fussy... Sad
