Since I have been on my journey to motherhood; I have learned so much about my body. Although things I am learning now, I should have been looking into a long time ago. Fortunately, I am now; and now hopefully isn't too late.

One thing i have noticed is that infertility is really, really more common than I would have ever thought. I just read a story the other day by an MSNBC reporter who is personally going through 'infertility'. I don't quote the term to lower its importance. Rather, because the term 'infertility' includes such a large host of complex possibilities.

There are things I just never knew about! My periods have never been regular but I never knew that could I wasn't ovulating. I thought since I was at least getting a period; then I was releasing an egg every month. I am finding out this is not the case; and also I am not the only one who had that mindset.

Being able to start looking for patterns in my basal body temperature has made me more aware of this monthly change in my body. I haven't quite been tracking it a month and I am already able to make some observations.

Generally speaking:

To have a baby, you have to have an egg. To have an egg, you have to 'ovulate' one. If you have sex between the time the egg is released and it dies, you will get pregnant. That is a very, very, very, very plain way of explaining conception. But if you break each part down you have an enormous event where the pieces must fit just right for it work.

Looking in forums and blogs, I have see that conception is a mystery to those without the education and/or financing to understand it - including me. I started wondering why isn't this area deemed important enough in society for there to be easier access to diagnosing and treating.

I have Googled, Asked, Live Searched, Excitedly searched 'infertility insurance' until the word 'infertility' didn't look right anymore.

Does anyone know of a company that offers insurance for infertility? Not a health plan that covers some things. But how Geico is to car insurance - is there any company that is dedicated to helping people with costs due to infertility?

Please if you read this, respond and ask your friends, mothers, sisters, daughters.

I don't believe there is a company like that. There are finance companies that you can go through though. Most reproductive endocrinologists have a finance company that they work with it.
