Ok gals. Here's the deal.
I have had Mirena for about a year now. At first, I bled for 7 months straight while my body was adjusting to this. (I had the baby 6 weeks prior to insertion).
After I stopped bleeding, I had no periods at all (which is normal). It has been 5 months since I was bleeding. Now, all of a sudden, I started bleeding again 2 days ago. At first, it was barely spotting. Yesterday, it felt as though I were having contractions! VERY, VERY bad cramps. I took some Midol and went to sleep. Today, the light spotting is back, along with the cramps.
I've heard that PID is common with Mirena, along with cysts. What do you all think? Paranoia or time to go to OB-GYN?
I've also heard that getting pregnant is possible as well. Doubt that is what I am going through though.
Any ideas???

If you were pregnant (really unlikely) the strings would pull up into your uterus. It is possible, but it's like .05% chance or something like that, almost (or as) effective as sterilization.

PID is a risk, but it would usually come up earlier (I think) because the risk comes when an outside object is inserted into your uterus- meaning the day you get it in. I don't really know how long it would take for the infection to show up, though.

With such a sudden change after having it for a year, I would make an appt. to see the doc. You don't want to mess around with that.

Thank you! I was wondering if maybe my period could have just come back because like I said, it was little spotting before. Could that be it?
It is old blood because it is very dark, almost black.
What do you think?
I just don't want to make a hasty appointment to the doctor when it could just be my period rearing its ugly head again (haha)
I don't have insurance for the moment.

I guess it could be it, it could be perfectly normal for you. But my doc had told me that if I experienced any sudden changes in bleeding patterns or pain, I should get checked out. How are your strings?

Perhaps it's at least worth a call to your doc, those are free!

The strings are still there. Today is day 3 bleeding. My gut is telling me that it's probably just my period again... I think I am going to wait it out a couple more days and if it lasts any longer than 5, I am going to the doc.
