Is It Too Late to Be Tested?
Posted: 10-09-07 23:33pm

Hey girls! I know I updated last week that I had the perinatologist appointment and that the doctor said he doesn't think that Dante has cystic fibrosis based on the ultrasound. Anyway, I've been reading up on it, and everything I find says that you CAN NOT diagnose a baby as having or not having CF by means of an ultrasound!! Evil or
Very Mad This has made me soo mad, because I went to that appt thinking I was going to get a clear cut answer, and now I feel like that doctor was stupid.

The only ways I know of how to see if he has the disease is through CVS or Amnio. However, most sites say they usually do the amnio around 20 weeks, and I'm now 33 weeks. Does anyone know if it's too late in the game to request the test to be performed? I don't see my reg ob/gyn until the 24th when I'll be 35 weeks. Any help would be great!! Thanks!

At my first OB appointment they gave me a kit that consisted of swabs where you and the baby's daddy swab the inside of your cheeks for a minute or so and then put the swabs in the mail to a place that checks them and sends the results to your OB or to you, whichever makes sense. It took about a month to get the results, so I don't think it's too late, but it is kind of pushing it.

What the test is showing is if you or the dad is a CF carrier. If neither one of you are then the liklihood of the baby having it is slim to none.

I already know that I'm a carrier. And my fiance has a 50/50 chance of being a carrier as well. Thats why I was sent to the perinatologist in the first place.
