Hi all

Sunday night while taking a shower I found a lump in my left breast, the next day I phoned my doctor who was great and said to go see her that afternoon, she examined me and found a hard marble sized lump, my grandmother and mother have both had breast cancer and so the doctor has put forward an urgent referral, I have no idea how long the lump has been there but I have noticed for a few weeks that I've had some pain, not a great deal, its like a dull ache(not constant), sometimes a quick sharp stabbing, I've also noticed some itching and a pulling/tightening sensation around the area where the lump is, although I didn't really think much of it at the time. I'm terrified, I can't help thinking the worst, I know i shouldn't but it's hard not to, sorry to bother you guys but I just don't know what to do with myself while i wait for my screening.

Hi!
You did the right thing by visiting your doctor immediately. Seeing the doctor as soon as possible gives you the best chance of successful treatment even if you have breast cancer.
Finding a lump doesn't mean that you are having a breast cancer. In most cases( 9 of 10 ) breast lumps are benign.
Most breast pain is not caused by cancer(some benign breast lumps are painful, but also, some breast cancers do cause pain )
Did you doctor find swollen lymph nodes in your armpit?
Can you noticed if your breast size is different?
Do you see changes on your nipple area?
I understand your worry and anxiety. That's a normal reaction when your are confronting such a issue.
When is your exam exactly?
Will you have mamogram, ultrasound or biopsy?
Try to eat healthy and do the best not to stress to much( stress is affecting your immune system and immune system is the first one to fight cancer cells)
I'll think of you!
Please, feel free to ask for support, help or advice!
Best wishes!
Marija

Hi MandMs

No the doc didn't find any swollen lymph nodes, she never said anyway, I can't see any obvious difference in the size of my breast, my nipple looks to be ever so slightly puckered around the area the lump is.

I saw my doc on Monday who said the hospital would call me within 48 hours to arrange an appointment for a mamogram, as of yet they haven't called.

Thank you for your reply MandMs, I'll update as soon as I have any news, thanks again.
