Q: Past Three Months Chronic Diarrhea And Extreme Weakness

I am twenty years old and I have been having strange symptoms for the past 3 months including:
• chronic diarrhea
• blood in stool (according to an occult blood exam done)
• body chills
• headaches
• fever
• painful muscle body aches (lower back in particular)
• extreme weakness and fatigue (to the point I cannot carry heavy items and walk a far distance)
• loss of appetite (i have lost a total of ten pounds in one month)
• poor concentration
• small skin rashes
• low blood pressure
• recent sharp stabbing pains in my lower abdomen
Symptoms fluctuate every other week. Several blood tests have been done and are of normal count of antibodies and glucose levels. Stool examined for parasites but nothing found. I was told by a GI specialist to have a colonoscopy done because they cannot seem to detect anything from other exams. I have seen about four different doctors of which none have been able to diagnose anything. According to physicians my thyroid is okay and I do not have colitis, aids, or crohn’s disease. Do you have any ideas of what can be causing these symptoms?

Hi!
Do you feel nauseous? Are you vomiting? Do you have lightheadedness? Do you feel stressed-out or anxious?
Are you experiencing faintness and fainting?
Do you have frequent infections? Are you pron to allergic reactions?
Do you feel depressed?
Do you find hard to fall asleep?
Do you feel apprehensive? Do you hear ringing in your ears? Are you noticing your heart action? Do you have red palms or fingertips or cold, clammy palms?
Can you notice some swelling, pain or tenderness of some lymph glands?
Do you find your urination changed?
Waiting for your post!
Best regards!

Yes, i feel nauseous but have never vomited. In addition, i feel anxiety/ depression at times (more now). I am prone to frequent infections but i do not hear ringing in my ears. My lymph glands look a little red and irritated. Recently, I feel as though i have a sore throat. My urination has not changed. There was an incident about a month ago when i almost fainted. I felt really dizzy and nauseous. I began to see dark spots, felt hot, and right after my stomach was in pain. My lower abdomen has been very tender and it grumbles a lot. I have pain in my lower back and lower abdomen often but no red palms. I have felt really cold and had chilly hands but that is about it. Thanks, i hope that you can help.

Hi
Have you noticed that you are unable to function when the whether is too hot( I don't know where you live, but if you have been on a holiday this summer)?
Do you feel apprehensive?
Do you have difficulties with sleeping? Do you feel salt craving? Are the small skin rushes like hyperpigmentation in areas exposed to the sun or areas subject to friction or pressure?
Have you suffered from tuberculosis or fungal infection? Have you used steroids as a treatment for certain medical condition?

Hello
When the weather is hot or cold I am not able to function normally. My body is very sensitive to certain weather conditions. I have never suffered from TB or a fungal infection. My "fainting" incident occurred on a hot summer day. I feel salt and sugar craving at times. I am a very picky eater now and I only eat foods that I crave and will not upset my stomach usually fibrous products. I have never used steroids but I do feel apprehensive.

All of your symptoms have lead me to think you may have a condition that's very easily left undiagnosed. I guess you have primary adrenal insufficiency, lack of hormones that are excreted from adrenal glands (glands that are situated on the top of your kidneys) This condition can be acute or chronic and is caused by the anatomic destruction of the gland. This destruction can have various causes, including tuberculosis or fungal infection, diseases infiltrating the adrenal glands, and hemorrhage. The most frequent cause is idiopathic atrophy (body is developing an immune response that leads to damage of the gland), in other words, the gland is dying without knowing reason.
There are lub and imaging studies and hormone tests that need to be done.
It's very important to check for this condition.
Please, visit your doctor and ask for referral to endocrinologist (doctor for glands and hormones)

Waiting for your post!
Take care!

Well, I have been to a GI specialist recently and he wants to schedule a colonoscopy. I am not sure if I should go that route before seeing an endocrinologist. I will take your advice before scheduling such a procedure. I have been noticing my lower abdomen is very tender and my menstrual cycles at first where irregular. I had missed one cycle when I began felling my symptoms. I think my illness is linked to my reproductive system. So, i will do more investigation. Thank you!
