I guess the bottom line is nobody know what it looks like.. they are all just guessing..

I know what an 8/9 weeks old embryo/fetus looks like, having seen one. People do know about pregnancy stages and human development, they don't just guess (if they did why would ultrasounds be used to date pregnancies?)

well, that was my point.. I think pregnancy .com is there to show you what your baby is looking like through the stages.. I don't think they would put fake pictures on it. It is a site to inform and teach women as they go through there pregnancy.

Ok... i have my human growth and developement book right in front of me... I am looking at it right now..... at 6 and 7 weeks... they have a human shape... not fully developed yet.... but you can see what it is... are you saying this book is misinforming me to? It has fetal stages...... also pulled out the Human A&P book..... I am looking at it.... it says in weeks 5 through 7 the embroyonic body and face develop a more human like appearance.... I am looking at pictures...... I am not easily fooled....... that is your opinion.. I was just looking for the facts.... it is what i found. These books do not talk about abortion.... so I was saying I was misinformed about the way they did it... how many weeks they were when they did it... and if it already had a heart beat at the time of it.... I was told that you had to be atleast 8 weeks before they would give an abortion...to make sure they got all of it out..... Im not saying that is fact.... just what I was told. Again..... it will be my daughters choice... but I will let her see the site and read many books on it before she makes a dicision... She will not be mislead like I was..... That is all I am saying... She will be the one who would have to live with her dicision... not me.

lol! I thought you didn't know what they looked like until you saw the pictures on the websites!!!!

The site I showed you is the leading embryonic research center in the world. Click around and look at more than just that one page. You might find it interesting.

I was just saying..... I thought they did them before they took human form....I was told by someone in the medical field that they did it at about 8 weeks..... I am looking at it from all views.... not just yours or mine.... I am for what anyone else want to do with their own body..... I don't care how many abortions you have or anyone else has.... What I saw changed my mind about it and it is my opinion... That is what this is about ..... opinions... doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong...I just have a different out look on it now.....

They DO perform abortions at eight weeks, Sadie. In fact, betweens weeks 6 and 12 is when about 60% of ALL abortions take place.

It's perfectly fine to be personally pro-life, as long as you respect the rights of others. I highly respect that point of view and give kudos to anyone who can actually say "I'd never do it, but you have the right to."

Eiri, 56% of abortions are done by 8 weeks, 90% by 12. The main reason why any abortions occur later than that is pro-life legislation, ironically enough.

Things like mandatory parental consent causes many teens to delay an abortion for fear of telling their parents, or having to travel to states where there is no such law, or waiting until they turn 18 if they are close to their birthdays.

Also, mandatory waiting periods, like having to wait 24 hours after you see a counselor at a clinic causes delays, because some women have to travel great distances to get to a clinic in the first place. Since the majority of women getting abortions already have children, they have to arrange childcare and time off from work to get away for two days. Most can't stay overnight (24 hours) so they have to make 2 appointments, hence the delay.

Why was it ok to have an abortion before it took human form?

Huzza, an even larger number! I wanted to go higher but as I didn't have the stat in front of me I played it safe.

I don't see the point; you were NOT misled. Not by pro-choicers anyway. Afterwards you were misled by pro-lifers and you've now been fooled into thinking that miniature babies are being aborted. It's not true.

Does a 12 week fetus look slightly human? I guess, if your opinion of a human has a gigantic head with enormous black eyes, a tiny face, stick-thin limbs and a body about the length of its head... and all of that is less than the length of the palm of your hand. Far less.

Regardless of how they looked what exactly did you think a human embryo was?

They do them at any time (here, "socially" up until and during 24th week, up until birth for fetal abnormality/maternal health)

This is a pro-choice view- if you have no concern about a woman having an abortion but personally wouldn't then this is pro-choice

Im pro life and i find it an insult to be regarded as a retard as one of the posters said on here. I do not agree with abortion so i ,yself will not have one, but i do not and will not ever try and take that choice away from another woman!! Back to the question.....
Yeah i do think it takes a stronger woman to keep her baby, i have had a couple of unexpected pregnancies and almost went down the abortion route, but i knew i couldn't do it, and i feel im a stronger person for bringing my kids into the world and careing for them. Im not saying making the decision to abort is easy, because im sure it isn't, but once a woman has aborted that baby she no longer has to bring him her into the world and care and love them, the child is gone and needs no real future thought...call me ignorant, but just my opinion!!!

The word retarded..
Actually retarded is as offensive as the N***er, c**t, b**ch and other profane words. There is an ACTIVE campaign going on right now to end the use of that word. Mentally ill or developmentally slow people are extremely hurt by ts use.

Tylanas wrote:
"Retarded" is not as offensive in the US, it really isn't. Some politically correct people get offended by it, but in a strange twist, I'd personally be more offended to be called an idiot or stupid than retarded. It's used in almost a humerous sense. "Don't be retarded" and "don't be ridiculous" are pretty close in tone and meaning. If you're calling someone retarded, you don't necessarily mean it. You call them an idiot though, and you mean it. "Stupid" is a fairly light word too, along with "dumb". Heck, I invented a word with some friends for describing really crazy/dumb situations: retardicated.

I agree, having an abortion is but a few moments of your time, having a baby is a lasting effect on your life and family that can not be easily dismissed with a "simple medical procedure."

No one disputes your right to not have an abortion. The issue is having the CHOICE, which you clearly did. Whichever your chose, that is great for you. No one has the right to make the CHOICE for someone else.

Being a teen mother, I look back at my choice and sometimes wonder how I would handle it if I was not as blessed with education, a good job, a supportive boyfriend (who is now my husband of six years), a good savings account, financial know-how, and a secure spot in college. I don't know what I would have done if all this was not provided. I cannot say, honestly, that I would not have aborted. I think it is one of those things where you never know unless you've been put in the situation where you HAVE to choose.
I do not think it takes a stronger woman to be a mother, nor do I think it takes a stronger woman to abort. Both are very hard decisions to make, are often made on one's personal circumstances, and both can have lasting consequences, good and bad.

There are women on pro choice websites who have said they would do it again ina a heartbeat, in fact there is an article out right now about a woman who was actually HAPPY to be pregnant so that she "got the chance to have an abortion."

There are PLENTY of pro-choice/pro-abortion women who are waaaaaaaay on he radical end of the spectrum. There are just as any of them as there are radical pro-lifers/anti abortioners.

My belief would be that out of those 100 who chose abortion....about 25% would never admit to feeling anything but relief and would do it again in a heartbeat

I don't think many women would abort again "in a heartbeat", even those who felt relief and made the right decision.
Regardless of reasons for doing it aborting is never an easy choice.

trina1 wrote:
I mean having an abortion and knowing the outcome of the human life inside you would be very difficult to say the least. Then....giving birth to a child after that and falling in love with that child the moment you see him/her....that would be life changing.

There are many women who have abortions and have children (I will be one of them next year and I'm sure there are others on this forum).
The fact is that if I hadn't aborted I wouldn't be pregnant now and I stand by the fact mty abortion was right for me, I just made a different CHOICE with this pregnancy!
