My husband and I were talking about abortion last night. His words were "Men should not have a say-so in the matter because they don't get pregnant and deliver babies." I don't really agree with that because it takes men to make a baby in the first place.

I agree with your husband.

He said there should be an application process for abortions and they should only accept certain people. My argument to that was then the women who got denied would find another way to abort, thus endangering their own lives.

You are exactly right, and he just demonstrated why he shouldn't have a say.

I do think there should be a limit on how many a woman can have in a certain timeframe before some actions are taken though. Maybe free birth control to all should be thrown out there. If it's free, there would be no reason to not be on it-unless you are trying to get pregnant.

Why do you care how many abortions a woman has? 9 out of 10 zefs are naturally aborted as it is.

Do you think a man should have a say in keeping a baby or aborting it?

I think that ideally, the decision should be made *as a couple.*

If the man has already run out on the pregnant women, the decision of course is hers.

I don't think the man has *as much* say in keeping or aborting, but he should at least have his concerns recognized and considered.
But in most marriages and between most couples, this already is the case. You don't need a law to force this. The only people who would suffer under such a law would be women in abusive relationships.

This exact question went to the Supreme Court and they struck it down for the very reason I just stated.

I never once said that this should be a law. I was asked on my personal opinion on whether the father should have a say in the matter. In a mature, adult, stable relationship, the father would probably have something to say in the matter.

It is MY belief (not saying it should be a law) that the decision to keep or abort a baby should be made *as a couple*

Please read the post in its entirety before trying to tear through my opinions.

I already had this discussion with Jinks, so if you would like to know my opinion, read through it. I'm not going to explain my opinions over and over again. You don't have to agree with them, I could care less. I was asked.

First, this post was in response to one earlier that I had made about certain people having a ridiculous amount of abortions within a year and a half. 5.

I'm not sure that someone like that should be parenting.

Give me a break!! So not only do you want to control other women but now you want to stop women from teaching their children they don't have to be sheep? THey can stand on their own?
I am not sure YOU should be parenting..

And if you don't like Marianne parenting you sure as hades won't like me doing it..
YOu see my now 18 year old college student daugther is very Pro-choice and I couldn't be prouder of her! She doesn't back down when she feels strongly about something. She posts on Girlnation, as I do, I'd like to get her here but she has little time these days for postings..homework don'tcha know..

Being pregnant was the horrible part for me. The actual abortion lasted 5 minutes and I immediately felt 100% better. My vomitting, nausea, head and backache all went away.

I have posted on here about my abortion experience. The actual abortion was the easiest part - the pregnancy was horrendous, not to mention the mental anguish associated with the pregnancy. Oh, goodness, how very badly I did not want to be pregnant...

I concur. Most women on here actually had good abortion experiences. I don't know who's story you've heard that was so horrible...

However, there are plenty of bad experiences, and for those women, abortion may not have been the best choice.

Of course. Abortion is not a panacea. It is the right choice for the right woman. Just like I don't like peanut butter... doesn't mean we should make it illegal Razz

Now you compare your dislike of peanut butter to an abortion. I don't approve of censorship, but I think someone should spatter peanut butter over your mouth (and keyboard), to keep your muddled opinions from the general public! Very Happy

Peanut butter has Aflatoxins in it; a carcinogen; it has trans fatty acids so therefore is bad for your heart. In order to preserve human life we need to ban peanut butter!
