Did this come on all at once, or over time?

I have the same problem and have been unable to come up with an answer although I haven't been to the doctor. My pain came gradually, sort of. I've had lower back pain for a few months now but this intense pain in my lower left side has only been going on for about a week. I can't bend over, I can't cross my legs, standing from a seated position hurts, rolling over in bed hurts, etc. I'm not sure what it is or how to get rid of it.
