My doctor said that I should be on birth control. Not only because I'm sexually active but also because I get extremely painful periods. I'm just wondering if i have sex with my boyfriend while i'm on the birth control does that mean I have to use condoms also? or can he cum inside of me without getting me pregnant?
Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birth control pills are more effective than condoms in preventing pregnancy. You can take birth control pills instead of using condoms and you can also use both. He can ejaculate inside you if you are taking the pills correctly because it stops your body from ovulating.

They are called birth control because they allow a woman to control when she will give birth. Smile

That's why many girls use pills, so they don't have to use condoms. BUT- if you want, you can use both as extra protection. Some girls do if they're really concerned about pregnancy.

You also should make sure this guy doesn't have STD's as well if not planning to use condoms. Birth control pills protect against pregnancy but not against STD's. I got infected with HPV the first time I had sex..

Word of caution, Norma,
Even using birthcontrol, if you're not using it right down to the hour everyday, it's possible to get pregnant. And wait a minimum of 3 months before doing it with your boyfriend without a condom. Your body has to get used to the BirthControl. That's how Alesse works anyway.

3 months? Who told you that? It only takes 1 week to become protected against pregnancy.

I read it in the alesse booklet when I was waiting for my doctor.
I think it may have been 3 months before your body stopped having the side affects.

yes you'd still need to use a condom. birth control is not always perfect esp. with the painful periods. I personally only got pregnant when on birth control. BC does not protect against STD's and is not always 100% in preventing pregnancy. If you're not ready to have a kid then you're not ready to have sex. Things happen so just keep that in mind.

I was told to read the packet, which told me 1 week. I was also on Orth-lo.

More like, if you're not ready to deal with pregnancy and the three choices available if that happens, then don't have sex.

Yes, THIS is correct.

A. If you start pills on the first few days of your period, you are safe IMMEDIATELY.
B. If you start pills at any other time, you need to wait a minimum of 1 week before having unprotected sex.
C. It can take up to three months for side effects to go away and for your body to fully adjust to the pills; HOWEVER you are still safe during this time!!

You don't have to. Read my above post. One month is the maximum you'd need to wait normally.

Listen to Eiri and read your packet if you're still confused. It's almost ALWAYS one week before you're protected, not months.

But of course birth control is only 99% or so effective, so if that's not enough for you, you can always use condoms or something else with it, lots of girls do that.

I'd worry more about sexually transmitted diseases than falling pregnant. You can get it so easily these days adn some without a cure. I made my parteners go for tests before I concidered having sex with them. I didn't want to risk my life. Call me crazy I don't care!

Be carefull! Be safe!
