Q: What Could It Be?

Hello. I am 29. 5'5". 150 pounds. Lost 100 pounds in 9 months without surgery by cutting all fats, carbs, etc. Now within the past month, I woke up 3 times in middle of the night with extreme chest pain coming right from the middle of my chest. Pain lasts about 20-30 minutes. Pain is worse than child birth. Then, I regurgitate a couple times and I feel better. I would like to also mention that I do have gas with this too, sometimes I feel I can't burp and I really have to. 3rd time around, my husband called 911. Rushed to the hospital, I felt like I was dying. They did blood work, Cat scan, X-rays. They said one of the tests came back where I might have stones, either in my galbladder or kidney. I feel extremely tired, my chest is ofetn tight and it feels like there is something stuck in between my breast bones. They want me to go for an U/S for both my gall and kidneys and they want me to go for an upper endoscopy. Kind of afraid of the tube going down my throat. Oh yeah and I also drank that barium drink and they said they didn't see anything wrong with my esophogus. Anyone know what it could be? I also have a really bad headache right now and I NEVER get them. I have always been so healthy. I feel like I was healthier before I lost all this weight. I feel like I am falling apart. Headache, chest pain, knot in my chest, and I feel VERY tired right now and I feel like I am in a daze, almost like I had a few drinks. Any advice would help. Thanks. Sad

It sounds like gallstones. You can get gallstones when you lose a lot of weight. The pain is terrible! Sounds like you are getting all the appropriate tests, etc. You may need to have your gallbladder removed.

Great job on the weight loss! You are healthier. It just doesn't feel like it right now, I'm sure. Once this gets taken care of you'll feel better. When is your endoscopy and ultrasound?

Thanks for responding. My U/S is on Wednesday Oct 9. I have not scheduled the endoscopy yet. I am afraid to do that. I am afraid to be put to sleep. Yes, I am a big baby.

You have the right to feel like a big baby! Smile

I wonder what they expect from the U/S... I recently had an upper abdominal U/S and they told me that it can show gallstones, but it isn't conclusive because you can still have small ones that are not seen. I kind of wondered why they'd give a test that isn't really diagnostic if it doesn't see stones. Obviously, if stones are seen, then gallbladder disease is diagnosed.

I have no diagnosis. Sad I had the UGI and an U/S plus some blood work. Apparently I'm perfectly healthy. Other than the fact that I hurt. Hmm.

Good luck with your testing. Let me know how it goes!

I had an endoscopy for the first time two days ago.

Like you, I was scared. Afterwards I had no idea what had happened at all! The drug they use has an 'amnesia' effect. Totally not that big of a deal. When I finally came around I didn't even think they'd done anything. It was THAT low impact.
