Mamograms & Inflamatory Breast Cancer IBC - bruises Posted: 10-04-07 17:05pm
I need some advice. I recently did some
research on bruises on the breast. I
noticed a bruise on my right breast about
a month and a half ago. I live a busy
lifestyle, and I'm not sure how it didn't
dawn on me until today, but it has not
gone away. I've tried to find information
on the web about what might be happening,
and some sites suggest it might be
Inflamatory Breast Cancer. This is
obviously a scary thought and I am in the
process of getting myself a mamogram
appointment pronto. I guess my question
is this, will a mamogram be able to detect
IBC? Should I go straight for a biopsy?
I am hoping I am over-reacting, but I do
have a history of cancer in my family and
am freaking out about this bruise. In
addition I also have some soreness under
my right arm in the lymph node area. I
have no soreness under the left, so I am
inclined to think this is an additonal
symptom of something...any advice is
greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi!
See your doctor immediately!
This form of breast cancer usually is not
detected by mammograms or ultrasounds.
Ask for a skin biopsy(you don't need to
have lump to have a breast cancer)
IBC is often mistaken for an
infection(mastitis and mamograf can show
signs of mastitis, only small percent of
women with IBC can have some changes on
mamograf)
Symptoms are usually mistaken with
inflammmation and many doctors think that
pain can't be caused by breast cancer.
Wrong! Please, be very persistent and
almost aggressive to find out the truth.
Normal bruises are fading away in 2
weeks!
Have you noticed that your breast is
swollen? This form of cancer sometimes can
cause swelling of a cup size in a few
days.
Is your skin discoloration with a texture
similar to the skin of an orange?
Do you find your areola changed in color
and texture?
Do you feel breast pain?
Is your breast warm to touch? Have you
noticed nipple discharge? Is your nipple
inverted?
Do you feel persistent itching of breast
or nipple?
Swelling of lymph nodes under the arm or
above the collarbone are usually seen.
Please, don't wait for bruise to go away
and don't listen to doctors if they say
you have only infection and you need
antibiotics(there are some cases of IBC
that have responded to antibiotics)
This is very aggressive cancer and is
treated immediately with more aggressive
treatment and differently than more common
types of breast cancer.
I'm waiting for your post!
Please, keep me updated!
Best regards!
