Questions About Hysterectomy Posted: 09-07-03 01:55am
Hello, I am 32 years old and have had pain
for 22 years. I was diagnosed with
endometriosis at 18 and told I may never
have children. I have two thank god.
I keep having it removed and it keeps
coming back. I have had 5 surgeries for
this and I also went through 6 months of
lupron injections in dec 95- may 96.
The pain is back and now feels like
everything is trying to fall out. The
gynecologist has given me two options.
Go back on the lupron (which I have been
reading all kinds of horror stories of and
have some of the symptoms of myself) or
have the full blown hysterectomy.
Anyone willing to give any advice? I am
scared to death of all the stuff I am
hearing from both ends of these choices.
Love to hear from anyone!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!

This forum seems to be very underactive.
Hysterectomies are not that bad from what
I heard, but a childwish can be a big
problem I understand...

Total Hysterectomy Posted: 09-16-03 16:25pm
My message is to anyone who is
experiencing problems after the (total)
hysterectomy. I have been getting sick.
I am/was a relatively very healthy
individual, but since my total
hysterectomy, I have been sick more often
and for long periods of time (2 weeks).
Is this happening to anyone else and if
so, do you know why? Possibly because of
the removal of the ovaries? I have a
cold I cannot get rid of. I have a sore
throat I cannot get rid of. I get a
cough that is absolutely irritating.
Hi I am 32 years old and I had a total
hysterectomy 2 years ago and I have had no
problems with being sick or anything of
that nature. The only problems I have are
the big stomach, hot flashes and mood
swings but with the help of hormone pills
its not that bad. The only thing I can't
deal with is the big stomach which has
just started getting that way. If anyone
has any advice please feel free to give
it.
Thanks!!!!

Hello There Posted: 10-07-03 14:23pm
I am 32 and just had a hysterectomy 11
days ago. My inside were falling out, I
had prolapsed uterus. I think for me it
was the best choice, I have 4 beautiful
girls and a stepson, but believe me, I am
feeling a little depressed about not
having the choice to have children again.
I think if you are having horrible health
problems then this is the answer, so you
can enjoy the life you have with your
children. I know the empty feelings will
go away, and hey there is always
grandchildren in the future right? :d

Scared About Hysto Posted: 10-09-03 11:08am
hi,
my name is sheri and i'm new here, but
really like reading all the messages,
because they seem to be very helpful.
Ive had three sugerys now, 2 for cervical
displaysia and one hystroscopy, which was
done yesterday, for abnormal uterine
bleeding. He was going to do and
endometrial ablation, but found that the
anatomy of my uterus is not normal, so he
suggeted doing a hystrectomy. My
biggest question for anyone is, im 40 and
want to know how long to expect to be in
pain and to be down with a vaginal hysto.
I'm still in some pain now from the
hystoroscopy, but it's getting better.
Thanks for listening!!

I Had a Total Hysterectomy 3 Wks Ago Posted: 10-16-03 13:03pm
Hi I am frankie and a week after
relocating to wisconsin I found a lump in
the groin. Having already had a breast
and a face (cheek) biopsy I went to Dr. I
found out I had a grapefruit size tumor in
my ovarie. What with being 49 yrs old was
instructed an entire hysterectomy would be
best. I had it on monday sept 22. They
went in trhough my cesearian scar from my
births of kids it goes from navel to
pelvis. It was a breeze, they found that
second ovarie also had tumor both came
back non cancerous. Basically all I have
to do is heal now. I came home wednesday
and must say only trouble I have had was
total exhaustion for about 10 days. I did
go out with family saturday night for
dinner. Walked slower lol but was fine.
To me it was less pain than my cesearians
were. I didnt ever take any pain meds
once home from hospital. All I had to
take was a prescribed iron pill as
hemoglobin went from 16 to 8.8. I return
this monday to Dr. For check up and
things are fine. I do have night sweats
not every night and I guess mood swings
are kicking in as yesterday was a cry fest
lol. I am truly thankful that this is
over and within 2 more weeks I think all
will be normal. I did have small belly
swelling but it went down within 10 days
or so and was mainly due to gas after
surgery. Hope this helps anyone who is
getting ready to have this surgery. I
have a husband, 24 yr old daughter she is
a flight attendant and she came and her
and I went to hospital alone as it was 4
hours from our home here. Hubby stayed
with our 12 yr old son when I came back
daughter stayed exactly one week and then
left by then I was able to do normal
things and one week after that I was
driving son to school and picking him up.
My Dr. Says wait two weeks to drive
simply cause of moving legs back and forth
may cause some discomfort.
Talk later bye, frankie

Hysterectomy Or Not Posted: 02-21-04 16:58pm
I tend to believe that some doctors are to
quick to recommend a hysterectomy, maybe
it's because they don't have to live with
the consequences. Endometriosis feeds on
estrogen, if you have your ovaries removed
it will remove the estrogen from your
body, but if you go on hormone replacement
the problem starts all over again. It's
ok it you decide to go without hormone
replacement, if you can stand it, but for
a lot of women it can mean depression,
mood swings, hot flashes, anxiety, panic
feelings. You need to think of these
things before you have a hysterectomy
because of endo.

Hi,
my name is renee, I am 42 and I had a
partial 3 years ago (they left the ovaries
in). The surgery was also performed
vaginally.
For me, it was the best thing I have ever
done. I had pre-cancer of the cervix for
the second time in my life, I knew I
wasn't going to have anymore children (my
tubes were already tied), plus "uncle
fred's" visits were becoming more painful
(cramps) and I was told that this will
happen as we age. So, I decided, I ain't
gonna use it, haul it otta there (excuse
the language).
I was off work for six weeks. I strongly
recommend walking slowly, not carrying
anything heavy. It may also hurt to
cough or sneeze.
