In the old testament, it is spoken of people afflected with leoprosy.

In those times, there were no fancy words for veneral disease, HPV, HIV, herpes and other diseases.

Isn't it possible that these are all related virus causing diseases?

Someone said on this forum that we are all capable of having these diseases dormant in ourselves. Well, maybe, not all of the above.

What is your opinion?

Well for one thing, it certainly couldn't have been HIV. That is a 21st century disease.

As for the in-depth discussion during that section of the bible (as I've read this part!) it details a whole host of skin diseases. Yes, "leprosy" was used as a general term because they didn't have names for everything yet, however actual leprosy is a disease and was one of the things they watched for.

It is possible that HPV was included, but something like syphillus could not have been since its symptoms are mental and not as physical.

YES, you *are* capable of carrying some of these diseases dormant after catching them. In other words, they don't pass down genetically. You can't get them from your parents.

You can get them from your mother when you're born- some babies are born with HIV or other std's. But no, Eiri's right, you can't get them genetically. You can carry some diseases dormant, though.

I know that at least in the case of HPV, there are over 100 different specific HPV viruses, each with slightly different risks associated. That's why regular pap smears are recommended, sometimes you could have gotten HPV and not even know it!

That's also why you ALWAYS need to protect yourself during sex, even if your partner **looks** clean.

We live in a world where protection is the only way. Even if it is too late for people getting back into the sexual world after years in a monogamous relationship.

I certainly have my eyes opened now. Never again would I consider sex without protection.

My daughter told me that the highest group of people being infected with HIV are older and not aware of the tremendous dangers with STD's. You could count me as one of the dummies. It has certainly changed how I feel about somebody I really loved. Better than a cold shower I guess.

Thanks Eiri and Georgia. You always have sound advise. I appreciate your help.
