Q: I Need Help With Diapering!!!!

Ok, my daughter is 15 months old. Recently, if I put her to bed without any kind of pants on, she has been able to pull off her diaper and play with it. Well, pants are no longer helping the situation. I just got her up from her nap and lo and behold, she knows how to take her pants off now. There wasn't any poop in the diaper (thank goodness!) but I'm still becoming frustrated with this. Are there diaper locks or something like that on the market?? Laughing
Aside from a chastity belt, I don't know what else to do! She is too young to potty training.

i know william can do that! and he is only 13 months and has been doing it for at least 2 months. ive had a few horrible sticky situations where i just dunk him in the bath and change his bed asap! the thing is though he takes his trousers off whenever he does a poo and then starts to play with his nappy! i hope you get some response to this post as it will help me aswell Smile

I don't have a child but I babysit & not only does this seem to happen with 1years old & such but a little girl I babysit shes about 3 years old & she loves doing this & what I usually do is get tape & a string and tape the diaper well & tie a little bow on it & instead she plays with that instead of taking off her diaper & play with it. Hope it works for you (:

Overalls. Babies of this age will undress themselves because they can. If you have some overalls, or a sleeper you can use a safetypin to keep the zipper from being pulled down - those will prevent the suprise poo findings.

String in baby's beds is a NO-NO. Never put string in a child's play area.

I worded it wrong, this child I babysit has this toy that is attached with a string so I give it to her & she plays with it instead of undressing herself.

my friends daughter who is 2 does that but she usually smears her poop on the walls, now at night she puts a sleeper on backwards so the zippers in the back and she cant reach it . alot have the feet on em so she cuts them off. cleaning poo off walls isnt fun, joseph went through that phase but he never did it in bed only during the day, sometimes he does it now but usually his diaper is wet plus he is 2 and he gets me another one when i ask him too. Hopefully yours doesnt start smeerin poo on your walls when they go for a nap. my friends daughter ive been watching all week the first morning they got up and i went to her room and she was sitting ont eh floor naked holding her pooopy diaper and i freaked out thinking i was gonna find poo smeared all over my walls but luckily she hadnt got that bored yet or anything , i made her carry that diaper downstairs and throw it away cuz it was quite gross.

Thank you all for your responses! I will try the backwards sleeper idea and also the overalls. She had a pair of overalls but they are a pain! I'll just have to deal with that. Usually before, she would just tear of the diaper and leave it on one side of her bed and go about playing with her pillow and stuff on the other side.

She has been doing this for a long time too, so I figured the pants would work. Now she knows how to pull off ALL her clothes so it has been a constant struggle to keep her clothed.

She's also discovered her tuti. She likes to pinch at it when I change her diaper. I didn't want her to think it was BAD so I just push her hand away and say don't touch, mommy is cleaning your stinky butt.
Doesn't really work though, I usually need help with her hands while I'm cleaning her up. When no one is around to help, I preoccupy her with a bottle of nail polish or the phone or something. She's very prissy Smile

we're not there yet but my idea for when she's not wearing pants would be to go around the top of the diaper (covering the tabs) with a piece of duct tape, like go all the way around her waist and overlap the tape on the back where she can't reach it (if that makes sense).

Distraction is your best friend when you have a toddler. Smile Used closed powder or the desitin so she could 'help'. I would also ask her to hold her clean diaper until I was ready for it. She loved being a big girl.

I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Hi
Bridget, I am so happy someone suggested this......it worked for me 24 years ago.......diapers and sleepers have come a long way since then! BAck hten, al would wrap the duct tape all hte way around. It was a pain in hte butt to get off, but it worked. The overalls and sleepers put on backwards are great ideas!

while the closed powder may seem like a good idea at the time... don't do it!

lol, i just posted a couple days ago about how i gave finn the powder to distract him and he checked it out for 2 seconds and then chucked it to the floor. the cap burst off and the powder splattered everything within a 10 foot radius! vacuuming up that stuff was harder than it looked (but now my dustbuster smells pretty every time i use it).

Hi,

My 2 older kids never did this, and my 11 month old isn't quite at that stage yet (heres hoping he never will be Wink ), but what about pull ups? or maybe you could buy her some cute underwear to put over the diaper and distract her from the whole diaper idea? I'm not really much help, but those two ideas came to mind. If all else fails, you could see if maybe she is just about ready to be potty trained (my daughter was completly potty trained at 18 months).

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Christina

The duct tape idea seems like it would work but since she goes through so many diapers a day, it would be a lot of trouble trying to cut them off every time. I've tried distracting her with the powder and desitin, but she knows how to open the powder now Shocked
The desitin, she just likes to suck on and bite and I'm afraid with all her chompers, she could bite a hole in the tube or something.
I gave her the clean diapers to hold and all but she tears them apart. Diapers are expensive so I'm not doing that one anymore Laughing

We have lots of panties that we put over her diaper but she knows how to take them off!! What can I say? She's too smart for her own good Laughing

Last night we put on her sleeper backwards and that seemed to help. I can't tell if she was just tired and didn't care or if she even tried. Time will tell.

Chu stopped doing that thank God. We've lost a lot of crib sheets because I don't deal with biohazards very well... I just put the pj pants on him that snapped to his shirt. The snaps go all the way around the waist so even when he managed to undo the snaps in the front he couldn't get the ones in the back. Or jumpers that snap in the back. And like someone else said, overalls. Too many snaps so he gets bored with it.

HAHA! I remember my son took the powder and dumped it ALL OVER my sister inlaw's carpet when we were staying the night with her. I tried and tried and tried to vacuum it up - but that stuff was in that carpet. It wouldn't suction out but if you slapped your hand on the carpet, powder dust would fly up.

macy and liam did that. i put sleepers on liam still cuz he cant unzip them but we put them on backwards on macy. we also put the diaper on backwards for liam and he hasnt figured it out yet. ive also duct taped their diapers too and its not that difficult to get out
