Q: Hcg levels and viability of pregnancy.

I went to the doctor today because my period is late, it's been 44 days since my last one. They did a urine pregnancy test and it was negative. However, the doctor said that does not mean that I am not pregnant. She said that maybe there's just not enough hCG in my urine yet. She wants me to get a blood pregnancy test done for hCG, Beta Subunit, Qualitative and a hCG, Beta Subunit, Quantitative. Does anyone know anything about the difference between these two? If I don't have enough hCG in my urine does that mean that this pregnancy(if that's what it is) might not be viable?

No, it just means your urine could be watered down. Some women never get positive pregnancy tests. Do what your doctor tells you. He/she knows more than us.

It's just, my last pregnancies ended in a early miscarriages so I'm really nervous! By the time I found out I was pregnant this past time, I was already on my way to losing it. I guess this is why she is testing me to make sure I'm not.

Edit: I know stress can cause you not to ovulate(thus being late), but I am sure I ovulated as I have been charting religiously. Can stress cause you to lose a baby?

Yes, stress can cause a miscarriage, so relax! For your health and your possible baby's health Smile

Actually if you don't mind me asking......when was the last time that you had a m/c, because i had one in July of this year and my cycles still haven't got back to normal. My last one was 41 days and I wasn't like that before the m/c. I really thought that there was a possibility that I was pregnant because I was so late but no I started af today......which really sucked. Oh well I guess there is always next month.

Good luck to you and hopefully your bfp really soon!!!

I recommend a digital pregnancy test. NO evap lines and DON'T break it open and try to read it!!! You'll know a positive when you see one. Note: ALL the following pics were taken WITHIN the recommended time:

Guys, I don't think she's claiming those to be her own tests so relax Evil or Very Mad She is simply showing what a proper test should look like!!

well on the first test she shows... why does she say....

"Just took another test at 7:30 pm and it was even darker! "

that is leading us to believe it is hers
