Broken Molar With Decay?
Posted: 10-03-07 11:53am

Just last night I was flossing my teeth and a small piece of my molar fell out! It is fairly small, about half the size of a grain of rice. It is deeper than it is wide. It looks be be gray at the area where it broke, which I assume is decay?
I am traveling for the next few weeks and I was wondering if it would be a bad thing to wait until I get home to go to the dentist, or should I try to find one on the road immediately? The tooth does not hurt too bad, just a very faint pain once in a while and is not very sensitive to cool air or water. What should I do? (No dental insurance).
Is there anything I can do besides brushing to prevent any further decay or bacteria from settling in there? Thanks everyone!

When was the last time you went to the dentist? If you go on a regular basis twice a year, the dentist would have spotted this through xrays and then there would not have been a problem of it breaking off. I understand about the not having dental insurance, but by prolonging it, by the time you are 50, you are lucky to have what teeth and gums you have left from dental neglect. I was trying to raise a daughter alone.....her teeth came first! If I were you, I'd find a good reputable dentist where I was and have this looked into immediatlly. You may be in only a little pain now but believe me, the longer it's in there decayed, the worse things will get. Rinse your mouth out with diluted hydrogen peroxide (dollar store) mixed with water. This will help to keep bacteria at bay. Hope this helps!
