Q: Spotting After Pap Smear

I had my yearly pap smear a week ago and I am still spotting a little bit. This has not happened with other pap smears. Is it normal to still be spotting a little (this is only when I wipe)?

It is normal to spot after a pap. That crazy torture device they jam up into your cervix can be irritated and the force could have caused some spotting. If it doesn't stop within a few more days, I would call the doctor.

O.o I never had anything shoved up my cervix... I did have a speculum slid into my vagina all three times, and a swab rubbed against my cervix, but never anything jammed into it! Wink *wink*

Did you change your birth control like you posted about earlier? That could have something to do with the spotting.

Generally spotting doesn't last an entire week. You may want to call your doctor's office to check on the results of your pap smear and mention your spotting issue.

Good luck!

Ouch
I guess when you reach "50" you've been about poked, jabbed and rammed by anything medical. Eiri, you bust me up sometimes!!!!!!!!! SOmetimes, they do go in and CLIP a piece instead of use the swab. Its then made inot a slide for cells to be checked for normal or abnormal. I agree with the others, if the bleeding has not stopped ina couple days, call your dr and have them recheck this.........Eiri really only 3 times?

Yep, only 3.

My mom didn't tell me I needed a pap when I turned 18 so I never got one until I was sexually active at age 20, and I turn 23 this year lol. My mom hates paps which is why she avoided it like the plague. I don't hate it so much.

I have not changed my birth control yet after this last pack I'm on, I will change then. I called my doctor's office and they said that it could take a few more days to stop. Thanks so much for everyone's comments.
