Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are usually really safe when it comes to having sex, however about 5 days ago we got a little carried away and had unprotected sex about 4 times in one night, I'm really worried about getting pregnant, two questions....can I still take EC, and how soon can I take a pregnancy test? Thank you for your help!

What is EC?

Pregnancy tests should be taken on the first day of your missed period. If it comes out negative, wait a few days and if your period still hasn't arrived, test again.

Emergency contraceptive should be taken as soon as possible after
unprotected sex..
i think it will work up to 36hrs. (correct me if i'm wrong) after the unprotected
sex...

pregnancy tests should be taken after you miss your period..
don't stress out about it until you miss your period
because stress can also cause you to miss your period..

EMERGENCY contraception can be taken up to 120 hours after sex, which is 5 days.

It is MOST effective if you take it within 3 days, but you can still take it!!

A pregnancy test can be taken about 14 days after unprotected sex, this would be the earliest.

Hi
hi, take emergency contraception and wait and see if your period comes.
If not take a pregnancy test if it shows negative wait a week and try again.(pregnancy tests can only be taken 2 weeks after sex)

That's not necessarily true. Say for example, I had unprotected sex while on my period. YOU CAN GET PREGNANT ON YOUR PERIOD. I would have to wait until I miss my next period to test. That could be like 4 weeks.

You don't have to wait until your next period. You have to wait two weeks because that's how long it takes for the embryo to implant and begin producing hCG.

We advise waiting until a missed period for two reasons:
1. It's usually enough time after sex (aka 2 weeks or longer) that a test will be accurate.
2. A missed period is a fairly strong indicator of pregnancy itself.

Yes, if you had sex less than two weeks before your period you're going to have to wait a bit longer and testing right after a missed period won't get you accuarate results.

The best thing to advise is "Wait two weeks."
