There was also a neat link I read between humans and aquatic mammals. It theorised that maybe, we came from a species that was aquatic for a short while before coming back on to land. That explains somewhat our lack of body hair, and a couple of other things. It was a neat book lol.

ahh.. my pet area for personal study. Paleoanthropology has always interested me and as we find more and more fossils of our earliest ancestors our past gradually becomes more and more clear to us; we can see we obviously did not start out just as we are now and far more then 6,000 years ago, which I believe IMO may be the beginings of the rise of the judean gods and the wandering neolithic hunter / gatherer societies later called the tribes of isreal.
No dear friends we are not a mere 6,000 years old. We have a rich and diverse history filled with may stops and each one is fascinating.

Mod,

would you mind moving this thread to the General debate board since this thread has nothing to do with abortion. Please

Here is what it has to do with abortion:
Sorry I didn't include this in the first post.

Many pro-lifers think life begins when sperm hits egg.

Many pro-choicers, myself included, believe life began once, millions of years ago, and has continued in an unbroken chain (evolved) ever since.

I think the thread is going to stay right here, as Future makes his point eloquently.

I edited the title slightly, Future, to show the abortion link ie/ when does life begin? Hope that's acceptable to you.

I have never accepted the life at the moment of conception arguement *nevermind that unless the fertilized egg implants, which it has a greater chance of not doing then doing no pregnancy occures* and a even bigger issue with the religionization of the debate but the single most ignored aspect is that human life began over 65 million years ago; no the instant a homosapien male sperm penetraits a homosapien female egg.

So you see human life did not begin at conception; it started long before that.

As close as we are to chimps, here's an interesting difference:

Human babies have a layer of fat and chimps don't. You can throw a human baby into water and it will float because of this and chimps won't.

We have other similarities with dolphins, also lending credence to the aquatic theory.

Yeah!! The aquatic theory is quite interesting. Newborns know how to swim (not great but well enough that if we were aquatic, a mother and baby could survive) and are comfortable in the water.

We also often have circulation issues regarding our extremities. This is actually an evolutionary advantage to sea creatures. Many seals also have circulation issues to their fins. It has the advantage of keeping hot blood in the core. For land people it's a little frustrating because cold fingers tend to be less dexterous, but if you're swimming and have webbed hands and feet, you don't need dexterity.

A note on this is that this chain of events supposedly happened before the migration of hominids out of Africa.

Okay so what is your point with that? Is it that you want to say that becuase you think that life began millions of years ago in an unbroken chainit it is okay to abort? Laughing

Look futureshock abortion is wrong even if the humans evoluted from turtles.

I am just saying that some people believe life started millions of years ago, some believe it started when sperm met egg.

Is it or is it not okay for people to believe what they want about when life begins?

It would be wrong of me to force you to think my way, and it is just as wrong for you to force me to think your way. That is the difference between pro-choice and pro-life people.

Pro-choice people respect everybody's right to see things their own way. Pro-life people want to force, through penalty of law, everyone to see things the pro-life way.

That is wrong, wrong, wrong.
