My name is jackie, I am 6 weeks and 5 days
pregnant. I went to the doctor yesterday
for the first time. The doctor performed
a vaginal ultrasound on me, they located
the baby, but there was no heartbeat, and
the doctor said my baby had died. My
doctor is trying to get me to do a
d&c. I have to talked to other
people, and they say, you can't hear the
heartbeat this early. I've talked to
other people and they say that doesn't
mean the baby has died. The weird thing
is that I haven't had any problems, I
haven't had any cramping, and i'm not even
bleeding. Has anyone had this problem?
When do you usually hear a heartbeat.
Someone please respond quickly.

listen hun, I am
4 months pregnant with my second child, I
have had 2 previous miscarriages. I have
been to plenty of doctors and every one of
them have told me you cannot hear the
heartbeat until 10 weeks sometimes longer.
With this child, I went in at 9 weeks
and they could not hear the heartbeat,
they did an ultrasound and they found the
baby, but no movememt. The rescheduled
another appointment for 4 weeks, that
appt. The heart was strong. Please
please get a second opinion before you do
a d&c.

Hope Things Go Well Posted: 10-07-04 00:46am
When I was 19 I was pregnant. I think I
was about 2 months and I went for an
ultrasound because I was having some
spotting. The doctor did an internal
ultrasound and did as well see the embryo
but there was no heart beat. He said
that sometimes the embryo will stay and
you may not experience a miscarriage for a
while after, even though there is no
heartbeat. I was devastated, I still had
pregnancy symptoms but there was no life
inside of me. I had to have a d&c
because as the doctor explained (and he is
a gynecologist) that if you do not have
the d&c your body can continue to act
as if it is pregnant supplying nutrients
and blood to the area and then you at more
of a risk for severe bleeding. Anyways,
I hope this is not the case for you, but
with an internal ultrasound they should be
able to see the heart beating much earlier
than they can hear it.
Hope things go well for you!
Hey jackie,
I definitely think that you should go
for a second opinion first, but don't put
it off. If you did have a miscarriage,
then they need to get the embryo out of
you, it can make you very sick if it just
stays there. So it's better to be safe
then sorry.

I went to my 1st app when I was 8 weeks,
the doctor couldent find my babys
heartbeat either. I bought one of those
home heart monitors, and I couldent hear
it still. I went back last monday and I
heard it loud and clear. He said that you
have to be 10 weeks... I got a icky
feeling when I read your post. I thought
doctors were suppost to know this stuff?
I have a precious moments baby bear that
says a baby prayer and im gunna squeeze it
right now for your baby...
