Hey there. I was wondering if anybody here had any suggestions for some anger management and/or general counseling at low cost.

My problem is that I am easily irritated and am all too happy to run away with it and become angry. I do not become physically violent, and never have, but it's always a worry in the back of my mind that it may devolve into that someday, which scares me to death. I have been known in fits of anger to say extremely hurtful things which I would never say or even think in a "sane" moment with the express intent of hurting the other person's feelings. I also am prone to being angry and/or irritable for the remainder of the day. Little things can set me off, I don't like taking no for an answer, and I have a hard time taking criticism, even when it's constructive.

I work but am in debt and can't afford much. I have heard of Lifeline and Anglicare, which are church-based initiatives. How might I get in contact with a local chapter? Should I walk into local churches and ask if they know anybody? Who would I ask? The priest/minister/preacher? What about other avenues? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Bravo!
You are asking for help before it gets out of hand and I personally commend you for that.
Let me say this, most counties in the state you live in have very low cost (if not free) mental health facilities. What I would do is call you local Children and Family Services and ask where there is one close to you. You can then see a pysciatrist and he then will send you to anger managment classes. Soetimes, the doc my opt to also put you on a medication ,once he/she has made the determination how bad your anger is.
Congradulations! You have made the first step toward recovery. Your asking for help!
It is good that you are listening to yourself and getting to the root before it evolves into something worse. Agressive behavior is nothing new in teen and adult in todays world. Stress alone can have a big role. Also family life. This is a fast paste world we live in and sometimes hard to contend with. Now for me, I am what they call a "Passive Aggresive". I hold things in untill I can not take anymore and then I blow.

Go get some help. DO IT!

Thank you so much for your reply! I hadn't even thought about state stuff, as the state I'm in isn't big on this kind of thing (which doesn't bother me too much - keeps my taxes low! But that's another story altogether). Anyway, I shall give that a try. Thank you again!
