my mum was on seratone which i think is a version of prozac but i'm not sure. she used to have panic attacks while on them and didn't really feel any improvement in her depression. she stopped taking them and apart from having a few days where she was crying for no reason she was fine. she acts no different now from when she was on them

Trazdone will make you sleepy. I believe that is what it's used for.

Prozac is a good med for severe mood swings associated with something like Bi-polar disorder, but for someone who just needs to take the edge off it can give severe anxiety attacks. It is one of those meds that has to build up in your system before you are going to feel better, so take it for at least 2 months before you say it doesn't work. Do stop using it if you have worsened anxiety, suicidal thoughts, homicidal thoughts, or if you hear voices that are not there.

Good luck, glad you talked to someone.

I was prescribed trazadone a while ago, and yes it makes you very sleepy. That is what I was prescibed for. My mom also had it prescribed to her for that. I think that it is also some type of anti anxiety or anti depresant as well. THe only side effect that I ever had from it is that it makes you groggy if you dont get enough sleep. I still take it sometimes if I can't sleep, and I usually take it right after dinner, so that it will kick in by the time I want to go to bed.

I would imagine that they would prescribe the trazadone for the insomnia that the prozac would cause. Just a guess but, I have never taken prozac.

Prozac helped me feel a lot better, but it took about 5ish weeks to work, so keep taking them even if you feel no effect straight away. They all take at least 2-3 weeks minimum to have an effect.

I really wanted to stay on prozac but it made me so tired all the time I couldnt function properly. I was falling asleep anytime I sat down and couldnt look after Jay like that so the doctor took me off it.

I take the same as Diane now. Diane do you get any of the side effects from zoloft? I havent noticed anything thankfully.

I've been on Prozac for 2 weeks now and the first week was really bad for side effects. I felt sick, breathless, had stomach cramps, horrific nightmares, trouble sleeping and a metallic taste in my mouth. I also felt a bit spaced out and my short term memory was affected. That's all pretty much worn off now but I'm still depressed and anxious. I'm going to keep on them for another couple of months but if things don't improve then I'm stopping them.

I've taken anti-depressants before but the Prozac gave me the worst side effects I have ever had. I felt really ill last weekend and nearly stopped them but by Monday I felt a lot better. I think it's just a case of your body getting used to them.

Well done on seeing your doctor. I know it's hard but sometimes we just need a little help Wink

So far soo good, no side affects. I think most of the ones like zoloft and prozaz dont cause bad side affects i beleive they are all classed into the same group too but im not 100% posotive on that one.

Yeah they are SSRI's (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors). Only thing ive noticed is I get nightmares a lot. With prozac it was very vivid dreams. Not something I would stop taking them for though.

SSRIs -
Celexa (citalopram)
Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate)
Luvox (fluvoxamine)
Paxil (paroxetine, seroxat)
Prozac (fluoxetine)
Zoloft (sertraline)

Jamie, How much of the trazadone are you taking? I usually would take 25 mg, and that would knock me out. In the begining I would take 75-100mg, and I could never wake up if I had to get up early.

Actually, today I am having a very bad day with the Prozac. I feel more depressed than when I wasn't on them. I feel like I'm walking around in a dream world and I'm shaky and anxious. I had to go shopping this morning and I felt like running out of Sainsburys because I felt so panicky. I have got to work this weekend (as usual) and I'm dreading it. I just want to sleep but I don't think I can because my head is buzzing.

Not trying to scare you Chase, I hope you have a better time on them than I am. I'm seriously thinking I can't take them any more but I can't see my doctor til Thursday. I feel like I've slipped out of phase with the rest of the world and it's terrifying.

You should let the doc make the changes for you. If you are not seeing improvement with your sleep within a week call and ask them to adjust the dose.
Playing with your meds is bad news.
