Maybe a small clot? Sometimes blood can be very, very dark and in a clump it might look like a small black thing.

Probably not a miscarriage - probably normal.

I've never had one, so I don't know for sure, but aren't miscarriages very painful?? That's what I've heard anyway.

I have had that happen. I freaked out the first time because it was hard, yet black. I ran it under water and it was a clot. Completely normal. I get them every once in awhile, especially if I have a particularly heavy period. I have friends who miscarried early in pregnancy and felt no pain at all. They bled for about 9 days and that was it, an extended period. I've also had a friend miscarry in her 5th month and that was completely different. I have never asked her details about it and I never will, but she had severe cramping and pain. Anyway, while it might seem like it's a little off the wall to have a hard black discharge, it can be a normal occurrence, however, as with anything medical, if she is really really worried about just call the gynie and ask over the phone.

Not necessarily. Sometimes it can be exactly like a normal period - especially if it is very early.

This girl saw the lining of her uterus all clumped up. Her period came at the normal time and it was not unusual as PghMom said.

From webmd

Quote:
Miscarriages are very common. About 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a miscarriage. It is also common for a woman to have a miscarriage before she even knows that she is pregnant

And to answer your question, yes, you bleed.

This happened while she was on her period. So she automatically would have been bleeding when this happened. Rolling Eyes

She 'bled' the small black dot when she was ON her period and she asked the OP if it meant she was miscarrying.

Well my periods always look like miscarriages then, since you said it was "bright red blood"! Razz I think that's the point that was being made. Bring red blood during a period is NOT exclusive to a miscarriage.
