However it does bring up some interesting insights into spirituality and how it relates to the abortion topic.
I'd like to see some of these listed clearly, no attacks on someone's beliefs please, just a clear definition of why your spirituality may affect your pro-choice, pro-life or fence riding stance on the issue.

I'll start..

I am wiccan.
I follow my Rede which does not actually say anything about abortion so it really influences my position not at all. It does say what I do is ok as long as it harms no one else. I do not view an unborn or recent conception as a 'person' until the brain kicks in and it is self aware.

any others?

I am somewhat wiccan- I kind've pull from many things. My spirituality tells me to revere life. I don't think I would have an abortion, I don't know that I would be comfortable with that. However, I am in a place in life where if I had a baby, it would be ok.

BUT I don't believe in forcing that on others, so I am pro-choice. And I completeley understand that different people have different views, and I respect that.

Here is my take on abortion and religion:

Abortion is not about religion...it is about humanity. After all....if you are able to stop one abortion you are not saving a religion....you are saving a human life.

And that folks...is how I feel on the subject. Thank you for asking. Smile

You don't think GOD would want that, but would you?

My memory may be a bit faulty but didn't you once state you'd had an abortion meblonde? Sort of like shooting yourself in the foot.. it was ok for me but I don't want you to have that option..
If I am wrong I apologize but since I am about to head to work I can't take the time to research the thread..

Yep I sure did.. It was when I was very very young and very very STUIP. I was easily persuaded. It was the worse thing I ever did and I would not wish anyone to go through it. It is the reason I never had children. I thought/knew it was wrong when I did it and I still do, even more so!! Call me a hypocrite if you want to, But people do things that that changes their lives and this did mine. I don’t protest outside of an abortion clinic, but I voice my feelings and experience on abortions. My abortion was done for a man! I grew into a very strong woman and I am no longer easily persuaded. And to tell you the truth it makes me sick when I think of it. So there you go. Now you know why I am so against abortions!!

Now let me ask you. Have you ever done something you would never do again or want your child to do? That is not shooting yourself in the foot, Is it?

I stayed in an abusive marriage for 16 years. Now I speak at women shelters and talked about abusive marriage and how not to stay in one. Is that shooting myself in the foot because I stayed in one, and now talk about how not to?

Sorry about your experiences meblonde.

But isn't this the real point of pro choice?? I feel sorry that you had to make a decision against your choice- so you regretted it. Some women do choose that abortion in the best thing for them- and if they were forced to make a decision against their choice, don't you think they might feel equal regret?

Glad to hear that your abusive experience was channeled into something so positive- I think that's a really great, courageous thing for you to do. Very
Happy

I am sorry that the abortion was not the right choice for meblond too, and I am also sorry that the abortions of other women was not the right choice for the child.

Sorry meblond, I dont mean to cause you any grief in saying you choice was not right for you or your child but that is the reality of the situation, I am not critisizing you or chastizing you, you know that though, I realise I am not saying anything new to me or you, you have realised this and come out the otherside stronger, more your own person, you have found the light amid your darkness. But i hope you understand that what I said was more to counteract the notion that is wezzeling its way in that sorry Abortion was wrong for you but its not for others, well yes it is always wrong for the child.

It wasn't anything medical. I felt like I had my chance and I blew it, (so to speak). I just couldn't bring myself to be carry a child after once being pregnant and aborting it.. Just my personal feelings.. And Thank You. It was a long time ago. I don’t sit around a dwell on my past, but it still makes me sad at times for the choice I made.
