Q: Blood Donations

I donated blood yesterday, and I still feel really sick today. My head is killing me and I feel really dizzy. I've donated blood many times before, but i never felt sick afterwards. Plus, the spot where they withdrawed my blood is bruised and alittle swollen. Has this ever happened to any of you? Do you know why it's happening to me now. Thanks for any help

I have seen bruised and swollen donation sites before, as many of my friends donate. I can't.

Eat foods with fast and slow sugars: aka, candy and pasta. Take a non-asprin pain reliever for the pain, but not asprin as that thins the blood - not what you need! If you don't feel better soon (in a day) then go to the doctor.

They had a blood drive a few years back at my work. I tried to donate and they told me I didn't weigh enough. Neutral Does that sound right to anyone?

I didn't know that either. They asked me my height and weight and said I couldn't donate. Neutral

Yes! You have to weigh at least 100 lbs if I recall. It may also be dependent on your BMI. If your BMI is too low then you are technically underweight, and thus too skinny to donate, as giving up a pint of blood would be unhealthy for you.

Oh. I guess that makes sense. I know I was over 100 but not by very much... 105 maybe? Maybe my BMI was low. Neutral

Thanks Eiri Mr. Green you're so clever!

The cutoff weight for anyone to donate is 110 lbs. If you are under that they can't allow it.
