Skin Cancer: BCC, removed right side of my nose Posted: 09-25-07 05:31am
I've just recently had bcc removed right
side of my nose by mohs.
It was 12 days later before I had full
thickness skin graft and yesterday I had
the dressing removed. I was not prepared
for how it would look, up until yesterday
I had not seen the wound. The bcc was
about 1 cm and the area now is about 2.5
cm and quite dipped. I'm 47, female and
I'm afraid quite vain. Can anyone else
share their experience with me and give me
some insight into how quickly I can expect
to see some improvement. I know that it
is early days but at the moment I can't
see me being able to go out of my house
without some sort of dressing on. Is
anyone else going through this, it would
help me immensely to share this with
someone.

I know how you feel. I just had a big one
removed from my back and its black and
ugly back there. I didn't have mohs but
the doctor said it will fill in. She said
she knows I don't believe it, but it will.
I know there are other people on this
board who have had success with the mohs.

After two years of being treated by the
local gp i asked for a referral to see a
skin specialist as i was concerned that
the small spot on my nose was infact
getting larger his treatment wasn`t
working .I had a biopsy done which
confirmed a BCC .I was then referred to a
plastic surgeon who removed the said area
and at the same time did a skin and
cartliage graft from behind my ear .three
months down the track i still wasn`t happy
so another biopsy was done the results
came back as a SCC with only two choices
left apart from loosing the end of my nose
rediation was my only choice so i have
just completed the radiation treatment of
which i still can not say that i`m clear
.
Just because they have removed part of
your nose do not think the cancer has been
removed please keep a good check and have
it checked regularly .My surgeon tells me
it will take months for the site to settle
down at the moment i`m applying vitamin A
oil to the site as to minimise scaring .
