My 5 month old might have a cold...Dad has a cold, and baby's coughing the last couple days and is more stuffed up than usual. I was wondering, if he is sick, what procedure some of you have taken...the doctor said not to give him water until hes 6 months old. I think this might have been to prevent malnutrition. Anyways...help?

Well, you could give him tylenol cold or just stick it out. Colds shouldn't last more than 10 days, so if it does I would take him to the doctor.

The doctor probably told you not to give him any water until at least 6 months, because that can cause water intoxication in children under one. Especially in the first 9 months. Too much water dilutes a baby's normal sodium levels and can lead to seizures, coma, brain damage and death.

thank you, your reply was very informative and appreciated. I was wondering if there is anything i can do to help him feel better (that isn't medication), such as a warm bath, or a cool bath, or...anything like that...
thanks
