Q: Stinging / tingling Acne

In 2005, I started getting acne on my face in places I traditionally haven't had acne. Some of this acne starts out as a stinging sensation, and when I touch my face in that area there is red, raised skin--not really bumps, though. Not too long afterwards, the redness and stinging fades into a lingering tingling sensation in those spots. Sometimes they do turn into dark acne spots/scarring that take weeks/months to go away, but oftentimes the raised skin goes back to normal the same day or in a few days.

I have searched the internet for information on this and haven't really found anything, but have seen conditions listed with common causes, such as stress, allergies, environment, etc. So, I'll list a few things that changed in 2005 when this started happening:

-I was 24/25 years old
-I had just started law school
-I moved from the humid South to the dry Midwest
-I do have sinus/allergy issues and seem to feel my nostrils tingling more and sneeze more in the Midwest than when I lived in the South
-I'd used Proactiv before moving in August, which seemed to irritate my skin somewhat

Any ideas on what could be going on and how to stop it?

Thanks!
